| General | I'm a beer and wine geek. My palate is not too refined, but I feel (as do many) that with beer, wine, and many other things, you either like it or you don't. If you can speak to why, so much the better for informing others. I'm all about information. I'm in the trade and I sell wine (among other things) as part of my livelihood. It's fun selling wine. My goal is to try more things so I can be better informed about what people are looking for.
My ultimate goal is to have get togethers with other wine/beer geeks in the Metro Detroit area. Off to blogging..... blah blah blah

When I was a kid, I used to listen to radio all night. Meaning, I went to sleep with the radio on. This was in Hayward, California, across the bay from San Francisco. I'm not sure what station I was listening to. It may have been different ones. I recall one night hearing this very different song in a dream. As dreams go, it was bizarre. A car starting and running, horn beeping. The song lasted for ever. And why were they singing about having fun on the Autobahn? This was 1980, give or take a year. How could I find this song again? Was it a dream? I'm sure they played it again while I was awake and discovered it was Autobahn by Kraftwerk, which had been around for a while at this point. Wow, what a song! The timelines on the memories are a bit fuzzy, but a few years later or so, I saw a movie. All I can recall now is that it seemed to be set on the coast, maybe Greece. Bright blue sun, whitewashed houses and a kid running down the road with a boombox. What was that song he was playing? Wow, that was cool. What I found out later was that it was "Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode. These cool songs just kinda sat in the back of my mind. It wasn't until I started listening to one of the best radio stations ever that everything came together, musicwise for me. The Quake in San Francisco. When Alternative was REALLY Alternative. A commercial radio station that played Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Madness, OMD, Depeche Mode, Stranglers, etc etc. Big Rick Stewart, Steve Masters, Jed the Fish. All day all night. By that time, it was all over, I was set. I was in High School/College. My musical fate was sealed. So while I try to expand my musical horizons, this Synthesizer music really gets me going like little else does, musicwise.
Here goes the laundry list, in basically alphabetical order of what I like.
Barry Adamson, Laurie Anderson, Art of Noise, Neil Arthur, Beck, Adrian Belew, Big Audio Dynamite, Blancmange, Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Cake, John Cale, the Church, Julian Cope, Cud, Danielle Dax, Depeche Mode, Thomas Dolby, Echo and the Bunnymen, Brian Eno, Eurythmics, Fad Gadget, Flaming Lips, John Foxx, Fun Boy 3, Peter Gabriel, Grandaddy, Guadalcanal Diary, Happyhead, Heaven 17/BEF, Robyn Hitchcock, Human Sexual Response, Japan, Jon and Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Kula Shaker, Luxuria, Madness, Magazine, Malcom McLaren, Mental as Anything, Alison Moyet, Mr Bungle, Bill Nelson/Bebop, New Order/Joy Division, Nitzer Ebb, Gary Numan, Mike Oldfield, OMD, Robert Palmer, Michael Penn, Portishead, Residents, Stan Ridgway/Wall of Voodoo, Roxy Music, Pete Shelley, Shriekback, Jane Siberry, Soft Boys, Sparks, Split Enz, Squeeze, Stranglers, Dave Sylvian, Teardrop Explodes, The the, TMBG, Ultravox, Visage, Voicefarm, XTC, YMO.
So many more... I'll add em as I remember em.
I love to chat music... | | Movies | The first movie I remember seeing is the Sting. A babysitter took me... kinda bizarre but a memory is a memory. I saw the original Star Wars the first day or week it opened. I was 11. I saw Close Encounters of the Third Kind on New Years Eve. That tells you the type of movie I like.
Biggest impact of a movie was ::ahem:: Midway, In Sensurround. These massive floor to ceiling speakers. When the planes flew, you were THERE. Man was that loud. 1970s too, amazing.... | | Television | ... | | Heroes | |

About me:
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6!
I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
Can't sleep? Need to? Good, then read on....just make sure there's a pillow on your desk first. I'm not responsible for any cuts or bruises to your forehead. YOU read this, YOU fell asleep, YOUR head hit the desk.
Moving on....
The picture? It's me, but I haven't liked many photographs of me. The one I just posted is a 'before' picture. As my wife gets fitter and fitter (she's damn hot! but then I've always thought so, and she's doing this for herself, nobody else) I'm inspired to do likewise. Eat cheaper, healthier, exercise more. Very good feelings! The boy with the seaweed? It's not me. Duh. He looks like I did when I was his age tho. It's my son, he's 11 and his name is David. My wife (his mom) is around here somewhere (actually she's the Michelle, number one on my friends list.) She has a few friends, Depeche Mode fanatics so if you know who my wife is and you want some dirt, gimme a holler and I'll share all the embarassing stuff. Stories pictures and video (no porn, ya freak.)
Oh wait, this is about me isn't? It's always about me, isn't it?
Fair enough. You are reading this, and you're not asleep yet so I guess I must continue.
I'm no longer 39. On my birthday, I may even change this number. Or not.
If I haven't put you to sleep by now and you actually want to chat with me, we can discuss personal history. It's not terribly exciting, but I won't deny your desire to waste your time. I'll just stick to points that I find interesting or somewhat relevant to the moment.
I'm an online pioneer. I guess since being a geek is somewhat cool at the moment, I can say this with some sense of pride. Back in the early 1980s, I had a Commodore Vic 20. I quickly graduated to the Commodore 64 with its 39K memory and 170K hard drive. I had a blazing 300 baud modem (for comparison, today I'm running about 1000 times faster.) I dialed (yes, dialed) BBS numbers to chat, exchange files, hang out. Then I heard about an online service called Quantum Link. I could chat with people, send messages, get files, get help, get something, all for 6 cents a minute! Oh and it was only available from 6 pm local time to 6 am (or was it 7?) local time. "at 6 o clock I felt so alone..." It was very cool. I met a number of people offline, had some great parties. It was as good a social life as I needed at the time. I hooked up with some people that I wish I'd never hooked up with. I didn't connect with some people who I wish I'd connected with. Best of all, I met my wife online. I was in California, she was in Michigan. Both wanted to leave our environments. I won and after we decided we wanted to be together, I moved to Michigan. After many side trips to other states, we're back in Michigan.
If you knew Qlink, I was Collecting and Michelle was Lostt. She's still Lostt but I can usually figure out where she is. And I'm still Collecting.
Which gets me to other thing I wanted to discuss..... my name. Other than the obvious Jim (which really is my name, I know, so common) WTF does EAPG stand for? It's an acronym. Early American Pattern Glass. One of my passions is buying, selling, collecting and talking about old glass. I've been doing this since I was 13. I've had so many collections of things over the years but now I have about 300 plus pieces of glass that date from the 1820s to the 1930s. I also have about 300 books on glass. It may not have impact on the world of MySpace, but if you're curious and want to learn, I'm willing to teach. I'll have pictures. If they make you drool, talk to me. If you're just drooling out of boredom, talk to the wall.
Wow, I could go on forever. I'll talk about music in another part.
