Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Noel Coward in the first place, followed by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, the Chad Mitchell Trio and, I admit it, Peter, Paul and Mary. Then came The Band, Bob Dylan, Eric Andersen, Janis Ian, Bruce Springsteen and John McCutcheon. Season heavily with Tom Lehrer. Is that enough? The reason I write songs, however, is the incomparable Tom Paxton.
Sounds Like
I sound like the guy at the next campsite at Winfield. The upstairs neighbor in your dorm at college. The forgotten singer at the back of the room in that bar, the name of which you wish you could remember. My recordings up the ante a bit, and my new CD, Thunder, has great flair and polish, while preserving the immediacy of a live performance. In person, I hope l sound like I believe in and sing for the song, not for the applause.
One day, years ago, when I had a recognizable job, with a paycheck and all, my boss asked me what I would really like to do. He had "the vision thing", thinking of taking his business to the sky, and seeing me right there with him all of the way. I took my time to answer: I was, as usual, in another world. I told him I really wanted to write songs. He looked at me as if I were crazy; I don't know why, but it's a true story. He's still a businessman. I write songs.

Good news! More acoustic music upstairs at Blayney's -- every other Wednesday night from 7-9 pm!  POUNCE Marketing will organize the line-up and handle the promotion, and we're hoping for a great turn-out.
Our first gig will be Wednesday, October 29.   Jim Abel will headline, joined by Duane Woner and Larry Garrett to start.
On Wednesday, November 12 Rick Malsick will headline (shhh, don’t tell anyone… it’s his birthday!), and Elaine McMilian and Jim Herrmann will open.
Let me know if you'd like to play, and come out to join us for a drink – alcoholic or otherwise – and some great music.
I am thrilled to announce my newest novel, THE MERCY RULE, has been named to the August 2008 Indie Next List – Inspired Recommendations from Indie Booksellers.
