Jim Carlson hails from the Midwestern city of Wausau, Wisconsin; where he has spent the last two decades as a solo performer (as a acoustic folk/rock singer/songwriter), performed with various bands, produced music festivals and been a stage crew member for touring national acts (both musical and theatrical).
Jim's first solo CD, "Out of Fashion" was released in January 2003, featuring original music in the singer/song writer style. For the next four years, Jim performed constantly, both as a solo artist, leading the Jim Carlson Trio and occasionally as a hard rock/punk guitarist (Doc Holiday, Cool Hand).
In December 2006, after returning from performing in Europe, Jim announced he was taking a break from 'regular performances'. He also formally scrapped the recordings from the "Further Out" recording sessions, declaring the tracks sounded "as though a tired singer/songwriter entered the studio out of obligation rather than passion." After a seven month break from the circut, Jim returned to performing in May 2007.
In Spring 2009, Jim returned to the studio with new songs and a revitalized energy. Although recording has resumed, no release date or working title has been announced.
In addition to performing as a headliner, Jim also plays guitar for the roots rock/rockabilly band Cool Hand.
