Jim Drew, an artist who has performed thousands of concerts both on his own and in a several bands over the years, has been excited to be able to form a band that is available for some shows now. His supporting band, when available goes by the name of Humble Soul and may at times bring a few different faces to a gig. In the summer of 2008 Jim released "Escape Velocity", a recording that featured Humble Soul.
The CD established the band as a wonderful group of professional musicians with a ton of heart and skill combined with a lot of fun for their audience. Escape Velocity was well worth the wait; this latest project is also well worth the listen!
"The audience came up with the name Humble Soul and I think it suits this band well. There are no egos and yet there is a ton of energy and life. These guys love to play and it shows. Feeling the music and relaying it so the folks who come can enjoy that life, bringing a wonderful spirit to the whole party.( Jim )
As a result of his work, Jim has garnered the attention of the entertainment industry in ways such as Incubator Creative Group. Incubator has been working on artist development material since March of 2008 and Jim just finished a major management report (Sept 2009).
Jim's love and creativity with music has attracted Artists to hire him as a producer as well. These New Artists are found both in Nashville and Hometown USA, Rochester, NY. He has 7 solo albums as well as one with a previous band, GForce included in his discography. Now this ninth CD, Escape Velocity, is with Humble Soul.
He also recently recorded a cover tune entitled, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." He was commissioned to create the song in his own style. It was well received and folks were excited to hear the new feel, which once was highlighted by a more countryesque/rootsy tone of the lyrics. Now it has a rich, soulful, R&B element.
Jim’s solo performances and the shows with his band, Humble Soul, are varied and yet have the cohesiveness of a writer with his own style. These songs will keep you intrigued, and the enticing ebb and flow will carry you into the moment.
"I want to thank Lou Gramm for taking me under his wing as a writer and giving me some awesome cues and clues for bits of the tunes he coached me on. It really helped them come to life for me as a singer!"
As you listen and see the band perform these tunes you may recognize some feels of a rock song or an acoustic tune from one of his solo CDs. You will hear Humble Soul dabble in the blues while adding a hint of other influences to their music, but the heart of it is Classic Rock.
With that combination of acoustic and electric blends, Jim's main grooves are earthy with an edge reminiscent of Doobie Brothers, Eagles, America, Rick Elias, and Randy Stonehill. The styles that best represent Jim Drew & Humble Soul are bolstered by some Progressive Rock flavors stemming from groups like Rush, Yes, and Kansas, while not losing their compelling and addictive rhythms of the heart.
"Our concerts are about the audience. If it was about us we might as well stay in the garage and play to the walls. This music is for all those who come, ready to be alive for a while. This is about making moments that bring a smile or allow thoughtfulness. We absolutely love the folks that come as they are the best part of doing this thing called music."....

Influences
Musical: Jim has some strong influences that will be obvious to some but the cool part is that when together each band member brings so many other influences to the mix, and they tend to use them all. Maybe some are just a hinted spice or flavoring and then others that are more like a marinade permeating all the pores of the rhythmic meals they dish out. Here is a taste:
Randy Stonehill, Kansas, Johnny Cash, Coheed and Cambria, Rick Elias, John Couger Mellencamp, White Heart, Eagles, Eric Clapton, Phil Keaggy, Alter Bridge, America, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Kutless, GS Megaphone, Rush,... Whew!!!, just way too many to name all of them here. .
Jim's Personal Life Influences:
Family, Friends, Samme P., C.S. Lewis, Profs Livermore and Judd Decker and then so many great writers.
Sounds Like
I have often heard that I have a sound of my own but I get all kinds of comments. Someone who comes for one very specific kind of music style might say "Why don't you just play one kind of music?" It seems natural and there are folks built like that but the funny part is right behind them are twenty other folks who say "Man, we love all the different styles of music! It just makes the whole concert so cool and keeps ya locked in and enjoying the whole thing. Really cool and way interesting stuff!"
There is something special about music that you have not heard before, really has its own sound, can Rock the house and you you still feel like you have known these somngs all your life. They are familiar and yet fresh to the ear and heart. They bring you right into the center of the stage to join the singer and now you are not just attending a concert but you are enjoying yourself and have become a part of the evening. Though you may have never heard these lyrics before, somehow you find yourself singing along.
If this is what you are experiencing then you are probably at a Jim Drew concert and possibly with his band that tags along sometimes, Humble Soul. Jim can hold an audience all by himself but also enjoys the band when possible because these guys can really jam and folks like that. Jim writes music and songs that are memorable with melodies that can invade your skin and haunt you well after a gig is over, and the lyrics are about real life, all of life, from the humor to the serious; things that we have all have experienced and feel, sometimes to our very soul. That is why it seems so familiar to us. The songs are about real things we have all felt and we feel them again, in a safe and wonderful place.
This is not just another Singer/Songwriter and Humble Soul is not just another Rock ‘n Roll band. Time has shown that this is a mix of classic and modern Rock ideas that are both new and familiar at the same time. The styles are eclectic and show Jim's skill as a performer and host to his audiences while the band can show music chops from the 70s up to now. Time and space are not an object and this music is at a point where it reaches the largest audience possible. Young and old alike enjoy kudos to yesterday while the modern feels explore the emotions of today, When the band is present there is also a power that comes through the drums and hearts of the band.
Jim Drew is a concert musician and Humble Soul is truly a concert band. These are lyrics that need to be heard. It's at moments like these that an audience knows they are important to the Artist and those who come have found that this Artist and the band becomes important to them as well.
If’n ya like rock, you will like this Jim Drew!
So here they are, Jim Drew and Humble Soul.
“My desire is to bring an honesty to the stage that only comes from baring a heart, but through all of the music. I do love good lyrics, but that is only part of the language presented on stage. I also like the feel and conversations of instruments on the instrumental jams. I hope this music will burrow itself into the hearts of people who come to the shows. The desire is for people to walk away having lived through something that impacted them and encouraged them. I don't want to waste anyone's time. These moments with an audience is what it should be about. That's why I am here”
