Sounds Like
Jim Davidson (** grins **). OK, I'll cooperate. People say I "favor" artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Waylon, Cat Stevens, Montgomery-Gentry, Trace Adkins, and to some degree, Jimmy Buffett
As many of you already know, I've suffered from severe pain in mylower back for the past several years. Within the last few months, the pain has increased so much that I cannot "put off" the inevitable any longer. On Monday April 20, 2009, I will have surgery at the East Cooper Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, SC to correct a herniated disk that has caused my problems. Thankfully, I've found a very highly-skilled and experienced surgeon to help me - whose specialty is "fixing" people who suffer from back problems such as mine. Dr. Don Johnson of the Southeastern Spine Institute in Charleston, SC (SoutheasternSpine.com ) will do my surgery and I'm confident that he and his team of amazing people will be able to "fix me" ... and that I'll be able to return to my busy music schedule sometime later this summer.
While it's impossible to know how long I'll be away, Dr. Johnson has asked that I commit at least 90 days to my recovery. Therefore, I have cancelled all of the bookings that fall during that timeframe (listed here or on my My Space page at www.MySpace.com/JimEDavidson).
As difficult as it is for me to "walk away" from you ... my loyal friends, fans, and customers at this early stage of the new 2009 "season" ... I'm confident that, given the seriousness of my problem, I'm doing the right thing.
I sincerely appreciate everyone's prayers and support and look forward to getting back into the "swing of things" later this summer. Until then, please keep in touch! In fact, you can now email me directly at LowcountryTunes.com ("Contact Jim" tab).
Thanks ya'll ... and may God bless!!
Happy New Year ya'll. Here we are in 2009 and I'm ramping up for another great season of music and fun on Hilton Head and the surrounding "lowcountry" areas. I've worked up a host of new tunes and look forward to getting them "out there" for you and all the loyal folks to hear. Hope to see you very soon!!
BIO
What happens when you mix one part Gordon Lightfoot with one part Trace Adkins, add a dash of Jimmy Buffett, and pinch of Cat Stevens ... and then blend the whole concoction thoroughly with a serving of Montgomery-Gentry? You only sample a few cuts from Jim Davidson’s new CD - “Which Way From Here?”, to get a “flavor” for what this new musical creation delivers.
Country at heart, yet steeped in the traditions of his Southern and Folk-Rock heritage, Jim has crafted a full-bodied and unique sound all his own. His baritone vocals are out front and (often) intensely personal – yet his arrangements and delivery are surprisingly contemporary. His ability to re-trace the steps that led him "back home to his musical roots” several years ago seem to have connected with a sizable audience as well – both in, and outside of his coastal Georgia / South Carolina “lowcountry” home.
“People who don’t know me often ask what kind of music I write. It’s difficult to answer that question because my material seems to cover so much territory. Whatever you call it, my songs tell the stories of my life. I have often heard great songwriters like Jeffery Steele, Craig Wiseman, and Rivers Rutherford say ‘write what you know about’. Well, after a decade away from my music (he had a “real job”), I took my guitar out of its case and wrote not only what I know … but what I have LIVED. And these days, I seem to have a LOT more to talk about than I did when I was back in college.”
Recorded in January on Nashville’s famed “Music Row”, Jim and his amazingly talented Producer Mike Bush, brought together a team of Nashville’s most sought-after session musicians to create “Which Way From Here?” This “A Team” as Jim calls them, together with veteran Nashville engineer/producer George Clinton – owner of Bayou Recording Studio and host to such artists as Alabama, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Hank Williams Jr. and many others – worked tirelessly to capture, refine, mix and master Jim’s melodies and lyrical messages.
Regardless of a person’s taste in music – be it country, rock & roll, southern and/or folk-rock, timeless ballads, or just good old-fashion “real life” story telling, there’s something here for everybody. Whether it’s the uplifting and celebratory love song “She Makes Being in Love a Good Time”, the hard-hitting country rock classics “You Drive Me” or “Guilty Dogs Bark”, the hilarious “Sunset City Senior Saturday Night”, or the poignant and heart-gripping “Fisher of Men” or “Make Time Take Time”, this new CD warrants consideration by the serious music connoisseur.
Whatever style or emotion it is that Davidson captures, he has managed to bring heart, soul, and his LIFE to the table – essential elements that will not escape his listeners. There is an unmistakable conviction in “Which Way From Here?” … but considering that this project was completed “on location” where country legends have worked, that should come as no surprise.
