"'Inside Outside' showcases Hickey's divided musical world with four quite beautiful tracks; as diverse as it is honest, 'Inside Outside' is a surprisingly warm yet gritty feeling work that gives just a small insight into Hickey's varied and various musical guises.
Hickey's impassioned vocalisation brings total honesty to his gutsy songs; everything he sings about becomes real, believable!
'Inside Outside' certainly shows this guy's strength and depth although perhaps not really focusing on any single aspect of his musical range and ability. But, the diversity displayed here is well proportioned and extremely informative. Hickey definitely knows his way around the modern musical form and he clearly demonstrates his instrumental, vocal and writing talents.
'Inside Outside' is a brave but massively competent release that tells the listener most of what he/she needs to know about the talented Jim Hickey. 'Inside Outside' features the throbbingly electric 'Inside Outside' and the catchy indie 'Telling The Truth' alongside the acoustic and beautifully rounded 'Way Home' and the slightly dark but jangly and emotional 'The End' - all-in-all an adventurous ride of elegant, well crafted modernistic soft-rock. Jim Hickey clearly has massive talent and this EP is a great introduction to his varied and expressive musical world."
"Inside Outside is awesome. It has a really unique sound, which is fun yet still cool. It's progressive and has a good tone to it. I look forward to hearing his next EP."

Following the success of his first EP "No Faith", Jim Hickey has delivered another collection of surprising new material. "Inside Outside", his new EP, contrasts his unique electric sound with disarmingly honest acoustic works. With influences as far apart as Radiohead and Oasis to Pink Floyd and the Police, Jim's combination of sound, energy and songwriting guarantees exciting results.
This was first evident on last year's "No Faith". Written and recorded in Berlin, it introduced Jim's incomparable approach to contemporary songwriting and performance. Jim decided to write and record his first solo work in Berlin after touring Germany as a session guitarist. He felt Berlin had the energy that fit to the song fragments in his mind. However, tired of performing for other acts - as a session player since the age of 17 - Jim formed his own band and played around the UK while trying to piece together his ideas. Feeling directionless he struck out on his own and moved to Berlin in February 2006. The new surroundings resulted in a landslide of new material.
"No Faith“ was recorded at LowSwing Studios in Berlin. Working with new musicians as well as studio wizard Guy Sternberg lent new focus to the raw energy in Jim's songs. The result – a mix of Jim's intense vocal delivery, strong guitar lines and a powerful rhythm section – is a stunning realisation of Jim Hickey's songwriting. In January 2007, after a limited release to a selected group of UK radios, "No Faith" achieved great critical and popular acclaim with radios and listeners alike. This turned into weeks of rotation followed by extremely positive response which culminated in "No Faith" reaching no. 36 in one Top 40 chart.
After a series of well received solo gigs in London and Berlin, Jim started work on a new set of songs. The first to be recorded and released is "Inside Outside". Recorded at Metropolitan Laboratories in Berlin, it showcases Jim's most jagged yet delicate work to date. Never one to follow the crowd, this startling new release reveals new directions and departs from the norms and expectations of modern rock music.
"This is one of the best tracks I have heard in a while just everything fits together really well and is an emotional song that grips you."
