Jimi Lee -- harmonica, guitar, vocals, songwriter, teacher, solo artist, band leader and entertainer.
This harmonica master grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in a musically talented family. It wasn't long before Jimi Lee's dynamic vocals and flaming hot harmonica solos rocketed him into recognition. He ignited shows for giants like Muddy Waters, Bobby Blue Bland, and John Lee Hooker.
Jimi's smokin' harmonica chops landed him gigs with Willie Nelson, Clarence Clemons, Steven Stills, Coco Montoya, Pinetop Perkins, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Kim Wilson and Chicago's own "shuffle master" Sam Lay. He spent 12 years in Hawaii captivating audiences from around the world and was voted "Best in the State" by the Hawaiian Blues Society.
Jimi Lee won “First Place” in the Solo/Duo category at “Austin Blues Society“ (ABS) “Heart O' Texas Blues Challenge” (HOT) 2008 and was first to represent Austin at the Blues Foundation
“International Blues Challenge” (IBC) 2009 in Memphis. He won “First Place in Blues” at the 2008 “Austin Songwriters Group” (ASG) Song Contest with his fun song “Pocket Full Of Soul”, which follow his 2006 First Place win with “Laundromat” and his 2005 First Place win which involved “Nashville Songwriters Association International” (NSAI) and (ASG), with his amazing song “Where Are You Tonight”. Jimi Lee also won the last "San Antonio Blues Society” (IBC) competition and represented (SABS) in 2005.
The Austin Chapter of the "Harmonica Organization of Texas" (HOOT) declared Jimi "One of the Best in the World" at playing harmonica in the rack and guitar at the same time and he gave a demonstration for (HOOT) on “TV Channel 8 News Austin” prior to his show at Antones nightclub. The 2008 spring issue of “Harmonica Happenings” magazine featured Jimi Lee in an article entitled - “Rack ‘em Up! Playing Harp in a Neck Rack: A Q&A With Jimi Lee.”
He performed at “Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica” (SPAH) Harmonica World Convention, and was invited back to give a workshop on "How to Play Harmonica in the Rack.” Since his first appearance in 2003, (SPAH) has added Jimi as “Part of the Tradition” at the Harmonica World Convention, and was asked again to be on the main stage Friday night in Sacramento CA at (SPAH) 2009.
Because of his expertise on harmonica, and his lifetime of experience playing rhythms for harmonica, Jimi has traveled the country as harmonica “Coach” and guitarist for Jon Gindick’s “Harmonica Jam Camp”. Along with James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Howard Levy and Mark Hummel, Jimi Lee signed on as USA endorser for “Seydel Harmonicas”, Germany’s oldest and most pristine harmonica maker. Jimi Lee recently teamed up with the extraordinary voice and bass playing of “Andrew Venson” to form "VENSON & LEE”. Jimi You are the hardest working Man at Spar and what a great job you do the whole event was wonderful I posted a few videos I took of the event. As a song writer I know how it is to have to put the song down before it puts you down I too wake in the night with the words and melody in my head and as a visual artist I now have these crazy videos that go with them but people seem to like them so I keep at it. much love and great respect your friend in the harp NEdra
