I will use this section to write some current news ...
My favourite musical endeavour at the moment is my HEALIN' FEELING BAND ... back to the electric ... which has been so inspired by the collaboration between U.S. guitarists Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. Upcoming young guitarist Matt Smith was also in the band but he has recently joined Thirsty Merc so I decided to be different and have two drummers, Scott Hills & Dave Sanders plus Greg Lyon on bass & vocals.
NASHUA ROAD STUDIO goes from strength to strength with my luthier buddy Les Dorahy as engineer and myself as producer. We have many projects booked in and this is a very exciting part of my life right now.
DON'T FORGET ...
* Time is the most important thing
* Ears, imagination and heart create music - hands simply carry out the orders
* How you play something is often more important than 'what' you are playing (the 'how' creates a sense of realism)
* Music itself is the greatest teacher of all.
KEEP MUSIC 'LIVE' AND ALIVE! Jim

'THE GUITARIST'S GUITARIST ... YOU'RE LOOKING AT A TALENT THAT SHOULD BE STRUTTING A WORLD STAGE' - Craig N Pearce, Drum Media
JIM KELLY has firmly established himself as a leading Australian jazz guitarist, composer and educator whose reputation goes well beyond Australian shores. In 1975 Jim collaborated with keyboardist Michael J Kenny and percussionist Ian Bloxsom to form CROSSFIRE, Australia's most celebrated jazz fusion group. Crossfire toured worldwide extensively and recorded seven albums, including a live album with U.S. vocalist Michael Franks - they also performed on collaborative tours with Ben Sidran, Lee Ritenour & Don Grusin, as well as Randy Brecker. From 1975-87 Jim perfected the rigorous demands of the recording studio and became a highly sought-after session player performing on countless jingles, documentaries, film scores plus pop and jazz artists' albums.
The 90's saw a change of lifestyle for Jim when he became Head of Guitar Studies at Southern Cross University, Lismore. Jim has recently resigned from fulltime academia and now concentrates now on live performances, recording at NASHUA ROAD STUDIOS (owned by Jim and luthier Les Dorahy ... www.myspace.com/nashuaroadstudio), private teaching and teaching part-time at Uni.
Jim also has a new band called JIM KELLY'S HEALIN' FEELING BAND with his old Crossfire buddy Greg Lyon on bass & vocals and two drummers, Scott Hills & Dave Sanders. Jim thought it was about time he got back to the electric, arguably THE instrument folks love to hear Jim play. He's been so inspired by the collaboration between U.S. guitarists Larry Carlton and Robben Ford, that he's decided that the Healin' Feeling is THE band where he can really stretch out.
AND CHECK OUT THE YOU TUBE VID BELOW ... It must be around 1972 ... Renee Geyer & Mother Earth with Jim and Mark Punch on electric guitars, Harry Brus on the bass and Russell Dunlop on drums. Check out the hair!

Very sorry to learn of the sudden passing of Russell Dunlop: I just got the news from Rob Fakes as well as details of the recent wake at Lismore Bowls Club - My sympathies to his family & friends with lol for them & their loss!
We've all lost someone very special today - Russell Dunlop - a best buddy, a true mate, a gifted musician, but most of all a real friend who made anyone he met feel like a best friend. Just heard the news from Col in Sydney. Ray is truly devastated but our love and support goes out to his beautiful Judy, his family and to you Jim because when you're joined at the hip like you guys your loss will be significant.
Thanks for adding THM Jim. Hope you like some of my kids' songs :) Hey, I enjoyed that gig so much the other night. What a pity the lady backed out of backing us for a recording :( But what a gorgeous audience at the Bang Thai in Bang Glow! Have a great weekend. x
Hi Jim thanks for a wonderful afternoon of fine music. Such a thrill to see you and Sharny relaxed and playing those standards. Now there's a CD in the making for you two?? Let's Do It Again! Cheers Helen
