I started playing guitar at 10 years old, learning from my brother Stewart "til my fingers bled". Big brothers can be mean when teaching. I started a band with Greg Ward (who later helped form Park Bench Trio), Britt Richey (later of Stewart and Winfield Fame) and George Milmine called Backwoods in the 8th grade. We played out and started semi-touring at 16 years old. You grow up quick doing that. We shared the stage with Foghat, .38 Special, Drill, Stewart and Winfield, Jupiter Coyote,..etc. and then broke up when we went off to college. I then began the solo thing for a while in Charleston while at The College of Charleston before getting together with Danny Cassidy (the Bedrooms, Cary Ann Hearst and The Borrowed Angels, amongst many other bands) and forming a honky tonk outfit with a stolen name (The Dirty Mac)... i think we played 3 shows and practiced in a church...then went on to hook up with Josh Lowder and The Family Jules (a brief stint) before returning to my roots and the solo thing then i hooked up with Bo Hubbard and Jordan Trotter for an acoustic threesome of sorts. After that I started the Marshall Brothers with my older brother Stewart (Stewart and Winfield) playing in and around the Charleston/Savannah/Athens worlds. We started the Marshall Family with middle brother Joe (Monkey Man/MICK JAGGER in the flesh) and played scattered dates around Savannah in between The Marshall Brothers and Monkey Man's schedule. Recently Stewart, Scott Rahn(Monkey Man) and I started Junkyard Angel with some of Athens finest musicians...here's a story on that...From Athens Flagpole...
Junkyard Angel is a cool ensemble of folks from a couple of different towns and bands. The players include Stewart Marshall (Stewart & Winfield) on guitars and vocals, brother Jim Marshall (Songwriter, Backwoods) on guitars and vocals, Scott Rahn on guitars (Monkey Man), David Nickel (Bloodkin, Stewart & Winfield) on bass, Rick Williams (Park Bench Trio, Bloodkin, Blues Olympics) on drums and Allan Hughes (Stewart & Winfield, NormalTown Flyers) on pedal-steel and/or AJ Adams (Stewart & Winfield, Cosmic Charlie, Blueground Undergrass) master of all instruments. Expect a heavy dose of Honky-Tonk, used, abused, rhinestone-infused tunes in the vein of the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and Johnny Cash...
Recently the band has added members Greg Ward on bass as D5C goes on the road with Bloodkin, and Joe Ippolito of Geffen Recording Artists, "Remy Zero" fame to take over the reigns of the NYC departed Ricky "Two State" Williams' drums. Currently I'm 29, married, still gigging, and doing custom renovation and restoration on Kiawah and Seabrook Islands and trying to stay afloat in the housing industry in some great times!!!!
By the way the tunes you here...Wrecker's Ball and Faith will Bring you Home were recorded by my good friend Greg Ward...one at SCAD Studios and one late night while under the influence of.......hard liquor. The rest are all first take recordings with a digi recorder somewhere's between the hours of soberness and not so.
Thanks for the ad. We are excited about being in the middle of recording our CD "The Wait Is Over" and having a blast doing it at RadioStar Studios. We can't wait for you to hear it. Thanks again and all the best,
