I play in a band called
Raisin' Cain
- there a few bands in the US (Nashville, Florida...kudos to ya'll) with this name. Check out our band's website.
Raisin' Cain nor I perform my songs....I'm just trying to get the tunes to whoever needs them.
Influences
My parents albums while growing up - Earl Grant (60's Hammond Organ great) Perry Como, Connie Frances, Sinatra, Classical composers like Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel,Stravinsky
60's/70's Radio, Vanilla Fudge, Hendrix
the group "Yes" - I loved the orchestral arrangements and fullness of the recordings
Joe Sample - jazz pianist - proof you can be funky while still playing great jazz
country group "Restless Heart" (the 80's) their sound brought me to .....country radio, songwriters Hugh Prestwood, (The Song Remembers When) Rivers Rutherford.
Songwriters of all other genres
Cleveland songwriters and musicians - there's alot of talent in this town. Hearing them and talking to them...inspiring......!
God - where it all comes from.

I'll Always Be your Mother
If you or someone you know, are getting married and looking for a song for a mother/son slow dance, this song, I'll Always Be Your Mother, conveys all the emotions felt on this special day from a mother's perspective. Check it out and CD available for sale at shopmysongs.com
The music journey for me all started with organ lessons at seven years old. I always had to practice before I could go out to play baseball with my friends. After a little while, I would love to make up my own songs. In seventh/eighth grade I was playing organ with my first band called "The Sykik Sound". I THOUGHT that was a cool name at the time!
At 13 years old I joined a band (with my parent's permission) called the"Knights of Brass" - it was a group of kids aged 13 (me) thru 17 doing Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass covers. (you young one's start Googling Herb Alpert). I was playing regularly in nightclubs (with a parent chaperone of course) once a week. We were even flown to a 500.00 a plate Democratic Congressional Dinner in Washington D.C by George Steinbrenner. For a youngin' ...I was living large!!
Played in quite a few rock groups until 1975. I then started playing high energy dance music in bars and hotel chains for a living. That's how I hooked up with Raisin Cain and frequently toured the Eastern United States giggin'. Raisin' Cain made the switch to a special occasion band and that's where we stand today. We do an occasional bar gig here and there.
Really started songwriting in college and haven't stopped since. I have written the theme song for local cable shows and was involved in the music for a Captain Dave Production that won the American International Film and Video Award for best original music for a local children's cable show. I have won two honorable mentions over the years in the Billboard Songwriting contest along with a Honor Award in 2003 for the Great American Songwriting Contest. I am a member of NSAI and ASCAP. See my website www.mrobscuritymusic.com for other details.
I have a beautiful daughter and granddaughter who are a joy and blessing to me as is my family. Thanks for stopping by. God Bless! Jim
Thanks for the add! Had a great time working with you a few weeks back and am looking forward to Saturday's job. And yes, we'll need "luck" to get through that song :)
THANK YOU FOR COMING OUT LAST NIGHT JIM! You truly rock -- I'm so lucky to know you. Could not do this without support like yours. Just because you have the Cd, don't be a stranger at the release party, where we get to spoil you back a bit.
