Jim McTurnan is now doing some solo stuff, post CAT-A-TAC, with a new band formed in early '09.
The demos here were recorded over 3 days, after only being a band for about 6 weeks. The songs were mixed by Jason Martin (Cold War Kids, Page France, Starflyer 59).
The band played a few warm up shows in Spring '09, then got after it:
Show number 5: outdoor main stage for the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase
Show number 6: Monolith Festival at Red Rocks, along with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Mars Volta, Phoenix, Of Montreal, Dandy Warhols, etc.
Show number 7: Pianos in NYC during CMJ week.
Show number 8: official CMJ music marathon showcase, NYC.
Show number 9: Bluebird Theater for EAOD's last show ever.
Show number 10: Bluebird Theater supporting Art Brut and Surfer Blood.
Show number 11: On TV, evening news on Denver's CW channel 2.
Show number 12: Starz Denver Film Festival.
More good stuff to come...
Ancient History:
With Cat-A-Tac, Jim wrote and sang 7 of the 12 tracks on 2007's "Past Lies And Former Lives," which reached number 42 on CMJ's Radio 200 chart.
Jim's song "We're All Gone" was the song of the day on Seattle's KEXP in June of 2007.
Two of Jim's songs, "Devil" and "Gloom," appeared on WOXY's unsigned podcast series.
Jim's song "Gloom" is licensed to Sims Snowboards and is featured on their official website, simsnow.com.
Jim's song "Needles And Pins" appeared on Magnet magazine's New Music Sampler for spring 2007.
"Needles And Pins" also appeared on the Monolith Festival compilation for 2007. Cat-A-Tac played the festival along with The Flaming Lips, Kings Of Leon, Decemberists, Spoon, BRMC, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ra Ra Riot, and a bunch of others.
Jim and Cat-A-Tac have also played some sweet shows with: Lou Barlow, The Wedding Present, Minus The Bear, The Black Angels, Darker My Love, Cold War Kids, Rogue Wave, Two Gallants, Nick Urata of DeVotchKa, etc.
Jim appeared with Cat-A-Tac on the cover of Denver's Village-Voice-owned alt-weekly, the Westword - which was neat.
