Jim Michaels is somewhat of an enigma not only to others, but to himself as well. Having played in various bands and using a vast array of pseudonyms, he's pretty difficult to pin down. Be it Punk; 'Mick Vulgar', Folk; 'Buzz Doughound', Psychedelic; 'Funky Repairman', or whatever you want to label it, it all boils down to Jim just being himself (whatever that may be at the moment). It's basically just rock 'n' roll, but unfortunately Myspace doesn't grant that option. He's content having played in Dark Skies, The Molesters, FEEdbACK, Zombo, Strawberry Atmosphere, Kracked Eggbert, Jones Crusher, and of course his solo work which he's been at for over 30 years now.
As far as influences go, Jim never stops talking about his favourite guitarist the late great Mick Ronson, who he had the good fortune of meeting on two occasions; the first on August 11, 1981 at "My Father's Place" in Roslyn, and the second on February 13, 1988 at "The Stone Pony" in NJ. Another major influence on Jim was Syd Barrett, the late founding member of Pink Floyd.
According to Jim, rock 'n' roll died an ugly death during the worst musical period in history - the 80's, mainly due to MTV. Don't bother asking him for details, as he was drunk through most of it, while listening to late 60's and early 70's stuff...usually Bowie/Ronno, John Lennon, Rolling Stones, & Syd.
Some people claim that Jim is Long Island's answer to Syd Barrett. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't... I don't know... and neither does he. Perhaps we'll never know...maybe it's just as well.
The music you're listening to on this page was recorded on a Tascam 4-Track Machine from 1989 up to 1998, when the machine broke down.
All songs were written, produced and played by Jim Michaels.
