My guitar and my cats; reading (never enough time for all the good books out there); people and music and travel; chocolate; Australian and New Zealand wine; the media & PR.
Formal gardens and landscape design, font aesthetics and the history of colour.
Music
Blues Country Blues Outlaw Blues Rockabilly Blues Soul Surf Aussie-Country Blues and old school R&B and all their bastard children. And Blues (did I forget anything?)
Buddy Junior Slim&Joy Marty Troy Willie Adam Tony-Joe Jimmie Lowvee Leon Joe Neil&Tim Johnny Waylon CSN&Y and any of the Hard Working Musicians on my space.
Movies
Sci-Fi and Trash; 60's Surf and Elvis! Donnie Darko - both of 'em!
Television
Pearl Mckay LOL. TV Comedy - Father Ted and the Royales. The Fast Show. League of Gentlemen. Anything with such a good story line you could do without the pictures! Anything WITHOUT shakey handheld or constant zoom-in-out camera-work because it adds nothing to the story (in fact it detracts from it). Early Kath and Kim was good, the commercial version is crap. Sea Change was good except the way they finished up the story line in the final episode: free spirits should not have been tied to neurotic capitalists! Space Patrol 2100 (1960s British Puppet Series).
Books
Just wish I had more time because I have a library full of great books and magazines. From full on literature to Ooor Willie Cartoon books!!! And books on Norton Motorcycles; Fender Guitars and Amps; Gerald Webers Amp Book; 60s Surf Culture and Music and Hawaiian Music; Australian and Overseas Country and Blues Musicians and Music.
Heroes
Personal heroes: Geoff Carter - a great muso and music teacher here in Oz. Bob Claridge - Evandale. John Murphy - Brighton. Greg Waddle and Hawley Stancombe - Tasmania; Noel Herrett and Vince Laragy - Melbourne. All mentors and friends with great creativity who helped shape my life.

About me: Why is Ginger cat on my profile? Besides the fact that I am an ailurophile? It is because I was using his pic as an avatar on some of my music sites - so people who know Ginger from other sites will know it is me here (crazy logic?). And people who don't like cats usually won't stay to read on. Plus I don't own a digital camera anymore; when I did I was usually the one taking photos anyway! If you need to see pics of me, my pics are in the public pics section or else you'll need to send me a new camera.<<..>> "There are four basic food groups: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and chocolate truffles." [with thanks to UK-based NZ Writer Nikki Cole!] What's your favorite chocolate??? My sister lives around the corner from Chocolatier in Melbourne;> And I've always loved Haigh's Butter (Dark) Truffles. Koko Black creates four very moreish truffles.
<3<3I love a Shiraz or Cabernet or Pinot<3<3 I hope you've come across the Way Out West Roots Music Club website, because I got that online. Rob Rowe (my cousin!) got the club started and has done a fantastic job getting the musos and the public together over the years.
I grew up in Tassie and still remember my first taste of 'live' music with some guy and his Fender guitar and Fender amp playing at a wedding at the Evandale Memorial Hall in the sixties. I seem to recall surf music on my dad's valve radio and somehow tipping it onto the floor as a two year old trying to find out where that groove was coming from. I have lived in Melbourne, Australia, for most of my adult life but spent a bit of time south of Sydney in my teen years. My previous work includes broadcaster for ABC Radio 83-94, TV Producer for Sportsworld 95-96, Skills.net & GOVic 98-04 (State Library of Victoria). I'm enrolled as a full time student for a Master of Arts (Communications) course at RMIT at the moment. When I visited the states in 1986 I was able to tour the (tiny) Fender factory and head office in SoCal at the time; and thanks to Marg O'Loughlin it was one of the highlights of my trip. Handmade Strats; who'd have thought?
I love my guitar music: blues and country through all types of roots music; flamenco to funk; classical to metal. You'd be surprised what I listen to! I'm told I have a great baritone singing voice but don't use it enough. Make sure you search out the Way Out West Roots Music Club in Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), I hope to see you there someday; Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society; my friends Shane and staff at BMusic in Gawler, Adelaide, South Australia; and Davis Music in Footscray.<<>> By the way: did you say hello to Ginger Cat? Yes, I am a crazy cat person! Ginger adopted me over a period of about 5 months; he turned up with a much older cat we've called Barney. So from being that stray 'ginger cat' in the backyard he became that... Ginger Cat (who loves to cuddle up when I have to read boring text books for uni)! Although I love cats I will stop and pat and talk to just about any animal or bird - just to look in their eye and share a special moment in time with them.
Who I'd like to meet: YOU! I really enjoy hearing from people outside of Melbourne, Australia, to get a different perspective of life. Add first, or message first?? I prefer to have you as a friend before I will spend time emailing. If you will take the time to add me, then I figure you will take the time to write me. I'd like to meet anyone interested in blues or country music; people who grew up in Tassie and any of my friends I met during my overseas travel and extensive trips away. If you've looked at my profile, please ask to be my friend: chances are I'd add you. I'm generally a very happy person. I really cherish my friends because they've helped me through some difficult times over the years; you know, life's little ups and downs that make us what we are. Life can be a battle sometimes, then again there are so many simple pleasures to be had! I don't use instant messaging and I won't be tempted to use it; my grandmother used to write and post three or four letters a day and I like that little delay of time - especially if you are half a world away! Sometimes it's nice just to talk and there are plenty of nice people to be found here. I've had a very special relationship since 1986. My wife takes a look at this page every now and then and doesn't mind; if you want to see I've got pictures of her, winning awards for her handspinning and knitting on here. She can't be bothered getting her own page. All the best. Jimmy
