About me:
Though originally from Tennessee, Jimmy Herciuk seems So Cal through and through. His multi-media paintings, which sometimes incorporate skate decks and surf boards, reflect the Venice Beach environment in which they are created. Herciuk often takes old paintings, cuts them into pieces, and collages them onto new canvas to add a textured, fractured effect. It’s not just a mix of media, but of emotions that comes through in the art. Flowers and monstrous teeth on a single canvas convey a real world balance of good and evil. The creative synthesis of materials and visions gives his paintings an authenticity lacking in less provocative works.
Many of Herciuk’s pieces are musically influenced in some way. Paintings of Yellowman, Marley and Sublime grace his studio. If his individual paintings are collages, so are his art shows, which are often held in tandem with live music. Musicians and labels have taken notice, commissioning pieces to be used as cover art on their albums.
The most impressive thing about Jimmy Herciuk’s paintings is the almost tangible passion they convey. Every subject is fully realized–be it ex-loves, musical artists, or breast implants, the art is an experience. The images in his work are bold and fragmented, perfectly suited for the chaos of life in Los Angeles. Yet, nothing seems forced, because, as the artist observed, “you just have to let it happen organically.”.natalie.
