Mental As Anything
James E. Hutter, aka Jimmy Razor, is a veteran of the Columbus original rock scene, having played with The Epicureans, Roswell Beach, The Revolvers, and currently The Moops. As a side project, he has taken to performing his own brand of solo acoustic rock 'n' roll, blending the simplicity of pre-psychedelia with post-punk energy and irreverence.
A self-proclaimed "conservative rock malcontent" (but politically liberal), Jimmy Razor has harbored a love of Rockabilly and British Invasion sounds for most of his life. Discovering punk in the 'eighties, Jimmy embraced the "Do It Yourself" mentality, liberally applying it to every note he has ever played. The end result is a stripped-down roots-rock Americana sound that owes as much to Buddy Holly as it does The Ramones.
"Why does acoustic music have to be so slow, introspective and depressing?" queries Razor. "Why can't it be uptempo and reflect emotions other than pain, sorrow, and angst? Why can't it make people feel things they actually enjoy feeling?"
Currently, Jimmy Razor can be seen on any given night performing his solo acoustic rock 'n' roll at a variety of Central Ohio venues, including The Thirsty Ear, The Rumba Cafe, Andyman's Treehouse, Ruby Tuesday, O'Reilly's, Victorian's Midnight Cafe, and Papa Joe's Ashville. If you catch his impromptu act, you won't be sorry.
