Jimmy Smith is quickly gaining recognition as one of the most versatile musicians on the music scene today. Jimmy is currently in high demand in the New York jazz circle as a trumpeter, composer, and arranger. Jimmy recently relocated to the Detroit area from New York City. Jimmy holds a Masters degree in jazz performance from The Aaron Copland School of Music. Jimmy has held numerous artist in residence positions the NYC public schools. He is an alumni of The Berklee College of Music in Boston as well as Wayne State University. He has studied and performed with Marcus Belgrave, Louis Smith, Arturo O'farrill, Lin Biviano, Herbie Williams, Michael Phillip Mossman, Matt Michaels, and Antonio Hart. Jimmy is member of The Motor City Horns, and the Latin band Saoco. Active in the local musical landscape, Jimmy can be found performing at a variety of venues around the city. He has worked with a number of Jazz, Latin, Blues and Pop groups, including The Verve Pipe, Jimmy Heath, Jim Rotondi, Valery Ponomarev, Al Hill and the Love Butlers, Alberta Adams, The Temptations, (Kenny Flav’s) Wayne Kounty, Frank Mantooth, Marcus Belgrave, and Chico O’Farrill’s Afro-Cuban Jazz
