CD REVIEWS
PLANS GANG AFT AGLEY

"...an antidote to the fascism that surrounds us daily." Yuri Susanna
Roots Highway, Italy

"4 stars .. noticeably more assured and finely nuanced .. it’s the duo’s bedrock integrity that powers their music."
John Conquest
3rd Coast Music Magazine

"This is a beguiling record. .. it inexorably drew me in. Plain, simple, unadorned, unpretentious lyrics and singing that weave their tales of universal life, love and woe with the slyness of Hemingway and the convoluted depth of William Faulkner. .. The characters that inhabit these songs .. are presented in all the gorgeous complexity that makes up human life. .. the unadorned fabric beauty of the melodies .. A slight guitar figure here, a jingle of tambourine there and an organ rising up like bubbling crude beneath, all adding nuance and texture to these tales. .. An A record!"

About Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus

Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus
of EDGE CITY
Acoustic Duo/Trio

In 2008, Austin’s Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus step away from the full band sound of their previous recordings with EDGE CITY . Their newly released album reflects their sound as a duo or trio when they perform in acoustic settings like The Cactus Cafe in Austin, Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, Anderson Fair in Houston, Uncommon Ground in Chicago, or at House Concerts from Austin to Bar Harbor to Baltimore.

“Plans Gang Aft Agley”

“Plans Gang Aft Agley” is produced by Ron Flynt and based around Jim Patton’s heartfelt, character driven songs and his wall of sound vocal interplay with songstress Sherry Brokus. With Patton on guitar and Flynt on bass and keyboards, the new CD also features A-list performances from Rich Brotherton, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Warren Hood, and John Bush.

Featured are Patton’s recent songs where: a man discovers alternate definitions of success; a daughter waits in a bar for the father who walked out years ago; a father tells his child not to make the same mistakes he did; a brave woman breaks free of an abusive past; people fall in love; relationships end; relationships endure.

Patton cites both 20th Century American Fiction (“Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Faulkner to Kerouac, Salinger and Raymond Chandler”) and the lives of the friends he grew up with in Maryland (“I knew doctors and lawyers, their waitresses and teachers, the water rats and gravediggers and the guy whose truck emptied port-o-pots all over the state”) as the main source of his lyrical inspiration.

Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus have sung together for over twenty five years. They confess to listening to a lot of “Richard & Linda Thompson, the Byrds, the Airplane, the Everly Brothers, and Emmy Lou Harris singing with Bob Dylan” when they started .. then took off in a direction “that’s pretty much our own”.

May I borrow some of YourSpace to promote MyCdRelease?

The all new, all original CRUELTY arrives Tuesday, July 29, and I'll celebrate with a show at Austin's legendary Cactus Cafe.
It's free, aside from the $15 you'll certainly want to spend on the CD.
Raina Rose opens at 8:30 pm, then Southpaw Jones performs in his finest suit, and nothing will ever be the same.

Check out a preview track on my profile page or southpawjones. com.
Thanks for sharing YourSpace!
