Jim Rowland has been playing the pubs and clubs of the Philadelphia area for the last five years and writes songs that are meaningful, funny, and touching - occasionally venturing into darker, edgy rock. Acoustic guitar driven music in a rock setting.
Jim commonly performs with just voice and acoustic guitar, but also frequently teams up with other musicians... He often performs with a band of semi-rotating musicians called "The Ghosts," and that's usually a really groovy bass player named Justin Riley and some great drummers - usually Steve Schupsky, sometimes Rick Vinet, Chris Blassucci or Mike Dubuque.
The album, "Ordinary Ghosts," was recorded with some magnificent musicians. Although Jim recorded most of the tracks himself, he had extra help on some tracks -
John Conahan & Dave Schonauer - Piano
Darren Keith & Chuggy Carter - Drums
Dave Homan - Sax
Gary Guth - Bagpipes
and wife Mimi sang some background vocals and did all the artwork.
Jim Rowland returned to music full-time in 2002, having previously released an album on RCA records with the group "Me," and was the founding member of "The Skam," a popular Philadelphia band of the 1980's. His music has been featured on MTV's "The Real World," the MTV Movie Awards, and radio stations across the country. He has performed with Allen Ginsberg, Pure Prairie League, Tesla, Los Lobos, Lyle Lovett, Pretty Poison, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Expose, and Taylor Dayne, as well as local greats like David Barry, Dennis Gruenling, Bob Miles, JB Kline, and Steve Guyger.
