I'm Jim Bonham. We started the Lighthouse Food Farm five (5) years ago. This was when I saw the tremendous need in our area. Unfortunately it had always been there, I just hadn't seen it. The need has grown tremendously in the last two years.
There were many plant closings and I found that many people needing help from the Food Stamp program and weren't getting any help. With hearing a few horror stories about people needing help and not being able to get any, the Lighthouse Food Farm was born.
I cleared Three (3) acres just in time to get the Winter Crop in the first year. We have since added another 15 acres to the farm. Some land use is donated.
After getting started we worked on getting an irrigation system installed. We drilled a well that is 630 feet deep and 570 feet is in Solid Rock. We have 60+ gallons a minute sometimes more of Very Good Water. God really blessed us with a Superb Irrigation System. It has saved our crops many times during the drought seasons here.
However, since we installed the irrigation system, it has presented a problem. The manure truck that was able to spread the chicken manure for fertilizer is not able to do so now. So now we need a Manure Spreader that is PTO Driven to pull behind the tractor. We should have a better crop if we get that piece of equipment.
The fertilizer prices went from about $2.50 a 40lb bag last year to about $14 to $16 a 40lb bag this year. We still need 10-10-10 for side dressing. But, we depend on chicken manure for the main fertilizer. With the proper nutrients and minerals, the food tastes better and the crop produces much better.
Please feel free to donate anything. It takes Money, Fertilizer and equipment to keep us in operation. You may donate items for us to sell to raise money for the program as well.
Please watch our photos as they are placed on here to show the progress of the planting and harvesting of our crops. As well as showing you what your generous donations have accomplished.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email here at MySpace or call us at the number below. I am on Eastern Standard Time (East Coast) so please make the phone calls during reasonable hours.

Lighthouse Food Farm* * * Hello My Friend - Thanks For Stopping By To Visit * * *
I'll try to be brief here as the Lighthouse Food Farm is my passion that you can learn more about below. I feel God has called me to do this food farm so, I have dedicated the remainder of my life to the Lighthouse Food Farm!
I am originally from near Galax, Virginia. I moved to SC in 1965 with my parents. A truly life changing experience to say the least. Many things were different from the mountains of Virginia and I'm not sure I ever adapted to all the changes. However, I have found that SC can be a very nice place to live and raise a family. As all places there is Good and Bad to deal with, like it or not.
With the school systems here I ended up with a fairly decent education including college. Seems like I have ended up a "Jack-Of-Many-Trades" as some call it.
Welcome to my life. Please read below and learn about our food program called Lighthouse Food Farm. Unfortunately, There is an increasing need for what we do to Help Feed Hungry Americans. Again, thanks for stopping in to visit.

Hungry - Homeless - Americans
Below is a letter of Thanks from a Local Soup Kitchen

I am asking you to take a look at our food farm that Helps Feed Hungry Americans. There are many things we need as our food farm grows across america. I started this farm five years ago and it has become my passion. I now work part time to pay our bills and use the business I have built to support the food farm. Our donations have dwindled to near nothing with the economy the way it is now but the need for our food farm has grown tremendously. Any help such as prayer, donations, used equipment would be Greatly Apreciated. We also could use your help us find a very economical vehicle for us to Help us deliver the food grown to help the Elderly and Shut-in Americans.
1} To encourage city leaders, organizations and individuals to take their abandonded vacant lots all across America and turn them into a productive Food plot to help the Hungry and Homeless Americans.
2} Seeds, plants and fertilzers are needed for each food plot. The amount will vary for each plot according to size of area to be planted.
3} These vacant lots would be cleaned up if needed and soil tested to make sure there is no contamination that would be harmful for growing fruits and vegetables. These community gardens could be worked by local volunteers, local organizations and the homeless. Allowing cities to grow fruits and vegetables to supply their community food banks, etc.
4} Fruits like grapevines, blueberries, muscadines and such are needed to plant where the land can not be plowed. This will allow this type of land to be used so that it will be productive as well.
5} We need to encourage our cities, towns and metropolitan areas to plant fruit trees in parks, playgrounds and ball parks. This would help many people in the area to have some meaningful nutrition that they may not be able to acquire otherwise.
6} While being productive and helping feed the Hungry and Homeless across the United States. This will help beautify our cities, towns and metropolitan areas across the nation as well.
7} We need your Help in making this happen across America, including suggestions, volunteering and donations that would be Greatly Appreciated.
1.) Our tractor that we have used for the last five years has worn out and broke down. The parts needed are not available to repair this tractor. We were fortunate that one of our contributors was able to loan us their tractor this past spring in order to help us continue operating the Lighthouse Food Farm.
2.) Since we have installed our irrigation system, the huge manure truck that use to fertilize our farm can not enter the farmed land without damaging the irrigation system due to it's weight and size. This has caused a need for a smaller more manageable Manure Spreader to prepare our farm for the next spring planting of fruits and vegetables.
See information below on the items that are needed. If you would like to contribute to the Tractor and/or Manure Spreader Funds, there are Special Widgets below the pictures specifically for these needs.

If our MySpace page has been enjoyable for you, make a small donation of $10.00 (Ten Dollars)to our Lighthouse Food Farm. No Donation is too small and it's easy and secure. Thank you for your help
Together with lots of Help from many individuals, small businesses, local Farm & Garden centers. Small and Large Corporations like: Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Park's Seed, Dicksons Tractor, Wilson's Processing, local grocery stores, people willing to allow us to use their equipment. And so many more that were willing to donate, even ones that do not live in our area donated to Help Me Help others in need. I know this doesn't begin to cover all who have donated their money, time or other things to help us. Thank you all for the Help that has made this Lighthouse Food Farm a success.
I do not like... Asking for Help. I'm not asking for me but for the Americans we Help Feed with our Food Farm. We Urgently Need a New Tractor - DK55.
During the times our donations did not cover our needs, I have gladly and personally taken up any slack that the donations did not cover for what our food farm needed to keep it in operation.
Unfortunately, I have lost 75% of my income in the last year. I have no alternative but to ask for help now.
I started plowing for this years crop, getting ready to plant when our Tractor Died - unfortunately it's Not Repairable.
This is the New Tractor - DK55 we need, with a frontend loader with a backhoe attachment. A Used Tractor would help right now. Any and All Donations will be Greatly appreciated.

Did you know that just one meal could stand between a family having a home and being Homeless? Sometimes people have to choose whether to eat or to have a shelter / home. Many families could lose their home if they missed only one paycheck / payday. Working together, our efforts can Help Feed Hungry Americans that are facing these issues.
Here is an answer to some of your questions on why I do this. Without going into a long story, my family has been where many Americans are now. Some people graciously gave my family a Helping Hand when we needed it the most, I'm just Paying it Foward!
I feel that God has called me to do this because, good people have bad things happening to them. I think that we should all care and help all we can. It could be us in their situation at any time in our lives. We would love to give as many a Helping Hand as possible. I know we appeciated it very much when we got a Helping Hand ourselves from people who cared for my family.
Our plans will assure that we can continue Helping Feed Homeless and Hungry Americans!

I would also like to meet someone that has connections that could help the Lighthouse Food Farm grow quicker as there is a Great Need for the food farm now and the need is Growing Very Quickly!
We also need to meet someone with the ability to help us with raising funds for the Lighthouse Food Farm.
I have done most of the work myself with setting this up and actually planting and harvesting the crops. But, I could NOT have done it without the Generous Donations from many people. I love doing this part of it but we need others that are capable in helping set up Fund Raising Events for a New Tractor to replace our broken Tractor and a Manure Spreader like seen above that is needed very much. Not to mention a larger plot of Farm Land to grow even more vegetables. The need has grown soooo much in the last year. Please help in any way you can.
I will be updating this page as time will allow. Please be patient.
