JIMS 2009 had to be cancelled (more in our blog and on www.jims.at).
Watch out for infos on JIMS 2010 - we hope the story will continue...
JIMS has established itself as one of the most innovative and best known summer academies for Jazz and improvised music due to it's international networking, it's excellent teachers, fostering upcoming composers, reflecting the latest musical developments and a general sense of excitement about life and music.
"There..s no silence like the silence after the Orchestra stopped playing." (Milan Kundera)
JIMS 2009 will present it's first 'unplugged'-concept, leaning towards the classical, acoustic way of performing. E-guitars, keyboards or people working with effects or electronics will be required to adjust their output volume to the 'acoustic' instruments and the vocals. Jazz and improvised music with a chamber music approach.
Practically it will be like this: Your instrumental classes will be in an unamplified, acoustic environment (except guitars, keyboards). In the ensembles you will also play in an acoustic environment, e-guitars can bring their pocket amps and adjust to the overall levels of the participating musicians, drummers will be required to play with brushes or their hands, or very tasty with sticks. The concerts in the evenings will also be more or less unplugged, the sessions will be amplified, there you will be able to rock! The final concert of the ensembles on Saturday night will also be unplugged.
The average JIMS-day consists of Jazz-theory (very basic), instrumental lessons (in the group), individual lessons, lectures about music and music related topics. Evening concerts of the highest standard top the program, followed by jam sessions by the teachers and students (those amplified).
Who should sign up for JIMS?
JIMS is looking for innovative, curious semi- and professional musicians interested in Jazz and improvised music. 'Standards' will not be part of the curriculum, we will enhance your knowledge and inspiration in the field of improvised music, contemporary composed music and the latest innovations in Jazz.
Course language is English.

I believed in studying just because I knew education was a privilege. It was the discipline of study, to get into the habit of doing something that you don't want to do. Wynton Marsalis
Matt 28:5-6 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
Matt 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Easter is a holiday when most people think of the Easter bunny, decorating eggs, dressing up in your best Sunday outfit and going to church.
Easter should be more than just another holiday to a Christian. It's the Sunday set aside to recognize the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. GOD sent his WORD in the form of a child, being born to Mary the Virgin as God's only Begotten Son. He lived a very short time on earth, having been a carpenter and then God's messenger the last three years or so of his life. He was crucified, nailing all our sins to the cross, covering them with his precious blood. If we believe on him, accept his free gift of salvation, then we too will see him in all his Glory one day!
Jesus was compelled to bear his own cross, to travel to Golgotha, where they placed upon his head a crown of thorns and proclaimed him "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS!". They placed him between two thieves hanging on a cross, drove nails through his hands and feet, later piercing his side to make sure he was dead. They took his garments to draw lots to see who would get them.
Mark 15:33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? "
He was mocked and given vinegar to drink instead of water.
John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
