Jimulations's Interests
|
| General | I have a wide variety of interests that include a love for music, the arts and especially musical theatre. I am also interested in photography, ghost towns, and outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting. I own a business, run my own website and in my spare time I enjoy doing volunteer work. | | Music |
My favorite composers are Holst, Prokofieff, Shostakovich, and Percy Grainger. I enjoy music composed and prepared for wind band / military band, standard traditional choir, 50's and 60's, and of course Broadway Show Tunes. I'm also a fan of Pop and Jazz Standards from the 30's and 40's.
I have been a musician for a very long time. I can play any low brass instrument (trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, and tuba) at a proficient level, and I have recently taken up singing. I studied music for 2 years at California State University at Los Angeles and have had a very accomplished musical career. Some of the hightlights include:
• Opening Ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
• Orange County Performing Arts Center venue on multiple occasions.
• Performed in the Sydney Opera House
• Arrowbear Music Camp (involved for 10 years)
• Traveled Europe and Australia on music tours
• Planned trip to South Africa in 2009 with Men Alive.
I have performed in Marching Bands, Concert (military style / wind band) bands, Jazz Bands, and choirs and have worked with nationally reconized conductors and composers. | | Movies | I have a wide variety of movies that range from Independent films in art house theatres, to main-stream gay themed movies. I prefer not to enjoy big budget Hollywood films produced to make money, but those that are produced for art.
If I was pressed to list my favorite movies, this would be my shortlist:
• Sideways
• Get Real
• Beautiful Thing
• The Birdcage
• The Broken Hearts Club
• Trick
• The Shawshank Redemption
I also enjoy watching foreign films because any foreign film that has made it into the mainstream U.S. market has to be pretty good. I’m not really into any obscure foreign films, just good ones.
I do often turn down watching mainstream action, horror, thriller, or suspense movies. I prefer any movie that doesn’t have a high special effects budget. | | Television | I tend not to watch too much television, but when I do I have certain shows that I'll watch. I'm into dramas on TV like:
• Law & Order (any series)
• Navy NCIS
• Without a Trace
• The West Wing
I also watch a couple reality shows:
• Airline (Mike Carr Rocks!)
• The Amazing Race
and of course:
• Jeopardy!
I have become a HUGE fan of any show done by Huell Howser. He's entertaining, fun to watch, and best of all, informative. If you've never seen any of his shows, I highly recommend looking into them. They're shown on all PBS affiliates throughout the state of California. His shows include:
• California's Gold
• California's Water
• California's Golden Parks
• Road Trip with Huell Howser
• Visiting with Huell Howser
My DVR helps get the shows I watch and I'll spend half a day on the weekend watching primetime shows. I love being able to fast forward through all the annoying commercials.
As an alternative to television, I have a satellite radio (Sirius) installed in my automobile. I am also able to access the satellite radio service online with my computer when I'm away from my car. Commercial free music and excellent digital quality sound are the benefits of satellite radio I enjoy most.
Because I listen to satellite radio in the car, and I don't watch regular television (only DVR) I tend to be not up-to-date on news, weather, traffic, etc. I am therefore not exposed to traditional forms of advertising (T.V. and Radio). |
