JINJER: I am actually a female hip-hop act. Although Jigglepop has been played and performed with a full college band, dancers, and the whole nine, I'm a solo act.
2. Tell us the brief history of Jinjer?~
JINJER: Well in middle school we had old-school set up, beating on the table and freestyling. I was actually the girl they would try to diss, I guess my acne was a easy target for the rhymers cause every day they had a new punchline about a pizza face. To be honest I was just tired of being to topic so I went home wrote and memorized 5 verses and waited to retaliate. The whole cafeteria went crazy...I never seen anything like it! Kids were telling others "She rap, ask her to spit something." They'd be like "I heard you rap" and I thought to my self "I do?...... yeaaa I DO!" From that day on I made sure I had that "something else" when they said "Spit something else."
3. LOL... WOW! Who are your musical and non-musical influences?~
JINJER: Lauren Hill was major to me because her music tied my favorites (Hip-hop & R&B) together. I'm a southern gurl so I need that crunk feel! Jeezy's sound really does it for me! It's like a drug when I hear him. I grew up playing the cello so that has to show through as well.
4. What are your dreams and goals?~
JINJER: Just to be a blessing to my family and others. My entire family has done so much to support me, and now its my turn to show them how thankful I am. I dream of waking up walking down to my studio and record the song I put together in my head all night, not just cause I love it but because it feeds my family.
5. Do you write all the songs and what are they about?~
JINJER: Yes I right all of my music. I love the energy that collaberating with other talented artists brings but I've only been able to do that twice (sad face)
6. What's your opinion of George Bush?~
JINJER: OMG! You just kilt the mood! lol.. I'm glad it over for him!
7. How do you promote yourself and shows?~
JINJER: It really depends on the venue.... A lot of myspace, flyers, radio. I'm preparing for a high school tour in 2009 where I'll do 2 venues in each city. The high school during the day and the nightclub that night
8. Describe your show, visual and musically~
JINJER: WOW! It is an experience I must say. I used to be a heavy party hopper and just got bored. So it is so important to me that my show is an experience that the crowd will be apart of and won't forget. I keep these flashers on me, that we give at shows and when those lights come on across the building the energy goes wild! Then of course there is the dance "The Jigglepop!" Some have referred to it as "The Soulja Boy" for girls. I purposes made the song simple and fun I actually wrote it in about 5 minutes. Once you get into my other music you can hear the lyrical depth and creativity,
9. "Jigglepop" where did that come from?~
JINJER: I was a cheerleader my freshman year at Winston Salem State University. I am very proud to say because I had to work very hard for it. Many think cheerleading is a joke but I learned very quickly that it wasn't. Anyway (I'm off topic) We had to learn this very difficult way of shaking are hips, Its like a shake stutter movement. Once you finally get it you can't stop doing it and the craziest part about it is many can try it only a RAM can KILL it! Many schools did it but everyone had there own style making it the same but different dance. After I left school to follow my music dream, I'd still do cheers when I couldn't go to the gym and came up with the song. It describes the competition between rivals, gives you that game feeling, with a club knock! The flashers get it hype! It's just a fun dance..... something different.
10. What do you think about downloading music online?~
JINJER: The pros-Fast spreading, free promotion, world wide exposure. However it completely changed the game. Artist don't make nearly as many sales.
11. What's your outlook on the record industry today?~
JINJER:I see it like this! Artist are creative people... we had to make a way out of no way to be successful, therefore we will find a way to make it through the problems of the music industry.
12. Tell us a story about a day in your life.~
JINJER: LOL.... I spend most of my day writing. No matter how weird, sad, long, boring, etc.... I'm writing. I love writing R&B its my favorite because you can paint each word. Working out is next on the list I and in the process of dropping 15 pound... thick is beautiful but I want to get in better shape.
13. What inspires you to do what you do?~
JINJER: The fact that I can't stop. I tried to stop and focus on school... I couldn't songs came to me left and right, in my sleep. I'd make songs out of things people said to me... like music said "You can't hid from me!" lol
14. What advice would you give to fellow Artist?~
JINJER: Make sure you love it and will still do it even if the success doesn't come. Your experience is always rewarding when you love what you are doing. With that state of mind you can't fail. FALL IN LOVE WITH IT!
15. What are some of your pet peeves?~
JINJER: Stank breath, people that call then just sit on the phone saying nothing, and liars. Lol!
16. How does music affect you and the world around you?~
JINJER: It influences EVERYTHING! The state of mind of the listener, style, trends.... It's everything!
17. What's new in the recording of your music?~
FONT COLOR="RED">JINJER: I have found that missing piece in my recording and fell in love with my voice. Now I paint my voice on tracks instead of saying words. I also sing more.
18. What are the biggest obstacles for Jinjer?~
JINJER: BREAKING THE STEREO TYPES! Just saying the words "Female Rapper" instantly put certain images in you head. So know I have to dig myself out the box, then up the charts! Also learning how to demand respect, I used to ask for it.......... Now I Take it!
19. What's the best and worst thing about playing clubs?~
JINJER: For Me! It's the fact that people are still getting to know me, I get observed intensely because they are trying to read me. But MMMAAAANNN! When they know the song and do that dance we have a goooooodddddd time, EVERYTIME!
20. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.~
JINJER: You can find Jinjer at a high school/night club near you very soon! Look out for dates! You don't want to miss it, cause I'm breaking the stereotype! Setting a new trend for women in Hip hop, so come observe history!
