South African born musical theatre and cabaret performer Jinny Sagorin made her debut at Scullers Jazz Club, Boston, in February 2005 with a sold-out performance of her show, 'It's For You,' which launched her first solo CD to critical acclaim. "She possesses a beautiful, lyrical voice and a disarming sincerity." Jinny has worked as a professional singer, actor, artist, photographer, television presenter and writer. She was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and graduated from the University of Cape Town with a diploma in Graphic Design, and degrees in English Literature and Art. She received her BA Honours summa cum laude from the University of South Africa and was awarded the 2000 Senate Gold Medal for top student.
She performed with the national theatre companies in Cape Town and Durban. Favorite productions are Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Evita, Naughty Noel, The Student Prince, Into The Woods, Hair, Annie, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Cabaret/revues include Swingers, How Lucky Can You Get, Aspects of Rice & Webber. She has sung in various groups: Maja Mina, Black and Proud with David Nissen, and was the other half of The Sweeties duo with Ineke.
Since moving to Boston, Jinny’s musical theater credits include leading roles in 1776 and The Pirates of Penzance, and Overture Productions’ The Bakers Wife, with Broadway star, Judy Kuhn. She performed at the Regattabar in the 4th Boston Cabaret Festival, which was voted “One of the Ten Best Cabaret Shows of 2005”, (Cabaret Scenes), and has appeared at Club Café, The Encore, The Center for Arts in Natick, Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theater, Blacksmith House, Amazing Things Art Center, and in private and corporate events. She is an alumnus of the 2003 Cabaret Conference at Yale University, one of thirty-six performers selected from nation-wide auditions.
