JJ
and the Rouxster's is an original, blues band from New Orleans, LA. From fishing
to "festing" JJ and the Rouxsters will help you adjust your attitude
and get you in the mood for some gritty, Southern LA, roadhouse blues!
Joel
James...
Joel James started his musical career as a student at
LSU when he formed "The Joel James Band", a cover band which performed
in and around the Baton Rouge area. While working as lead vocalist and lead
guitarist for "The Joel James Band", Joel was recruited by "The
Bob Ross Experience", a cover / original band which performed in and around
the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.
After
loosing and gaining a few band members, "The Bob Ross Experience"
changed their name to "Red Line Annie". "Red Line Annie"
was a cover / original band that played in various venues throughout the Southeast.
After performing a few years with "Red Line Annie", Joel developed
an acoustic show and moved to Georgia where he continued writing and performing
in small venues in the area. He spent a couple of years in Georgia and returned
to Louisiana where he met bassist, Tommy Murphy. Tommy and Joel combined their
original music and began working on starting an original blues band. Tommy and
Joel met guitarist, Lindsay Brown and drummer, Frankie Lodato and immediately
knew they where the missing pieces for the ultimate blues band, "JJ AND
THE ROUXSTERS".
Tommy
Murphy...
Tommy "Sweet T" Murphy started his music career in the 4th grade with
trumpet as his instrument of pain. Braces, and the inability to play higher
than a F, ended his trumpet playing days and put his musical ambitions on hold
until college where he took guitar lessons from a chick he had the hots for.
After
playing with various incarnations of pseudo rock bands, he and a few classmates
formed the oldies cover band Tic Douloureaux. The band did not need 5 lead guitarists,
and Tommy had a friend that would lend him his bass....a star was born. Tommy
still sits in with Tic on rare occasions, but he needed a broader outlet for
his limited musical talent. He began work on a solo blues album of original
music.
Much
like Antonio Gaudi's Church of the Holy Family, work on the album continues
to this day. He decided playing the songs live would be easier and went to work
forming an original blues band. After going through several singers he found
Joel James and the two hit it off. After losing their guitarist and keyboard
player, an ad in the newspaper found them Lindsey Brown.
The
puzzle that is JJ and the Rouxsters was not complete until the drummer moved
to Houston, thus opening a space for Frank (see Frank and Joel bios for details
of this serendipitous event). With the lineup complete the band is surely destined
to become one of the great blues bands of all time. If not, we all have day
gigs! Love, Tommy
Lindsay
Brown...
Lindsay began his professional music career in the Late 60&146;s at the age
of 15 playing with &147;Exit&148;, a New Orleans based band. After leaving
&147;Exit&148;, Lindsay spent the Early to Mid 70&146;s performing various
acoustic shows throughout the Southeast.
In
the late 70&146;s to early 80&146;s, Lindsay began traveling across the US,
playing guitar with various top 40 bands, such as &147;Krisp&148;, which later
evolved into &147;Shine&148;. The various bands Lindsay played with during
this time ranged from Disco, Country, and Rock.
After
touring a few years, Lindsay became burnt out on the road and, during the mid
80&146;s, he decided to become a session musician at Rockit Studios in New
Orleans. Lindsay also played with &147;Lockwood&148;, an original pop band
that later was know as &147;Jim Lockwood&148;, during this time.
After
taking some time off from music, Lindsay joined The Ricki Comeaux Band, an original
&147;chick rock&148; band in the late 90&146;s. Lindsay and The Ricki Comeaux
Band toured throughout LA, playing in such venues as Tipitina&146;s, The Howlin&146;
Wolf, House of Blues, The Maple Leaf, and various Bourbon Street clubs. Lindsay
continued playing with The Ricki Comeaux Band until 2006.
In
2007, while running sound and providing equipment transport for Bernard Productions
in New Orleans, Lindsay decided to reply to an ad in the Times Picayune, placed
by Tommy Murphy. After a quick audition, the rest of the Rouxsters agreed Lindsay
was a great fit.
Frank
Lodato...
Frank began playing drums in 2004 with a cover/original band from New Orleans
named "Tattood Santa". After Hurricane Katrina moved their guitar
player to Tampa in Sep '05, Frank and the remaining members of the band, with
the help of a new guitarist and co-lead vocalist, formed "Louisiana Southern
Junction". For a year they rocked the Southeast with a ravinous appetite
for the High Life and giant daiquiris! As usual, the guitar player left to pursue
something better (college) and we dismantled the establishment in the Fall of
'06.
Over
the years, Frank has played with "Minimum Wage", a cover band from
the Northshore, and has been playing bass drum in the "Oak Side Brass Band"
with Kevin O'Day.
In
March '07, Frank hooked up with Joel to do an acoustic show and to start performing
Joel's originals. Joel was already jamming with Lindsay and Tommy in a blues
project at the time and they were looking for a drummer. So naturally, Frank
slid right in as the drummer and final piece to the blues puzzle.
