Band Membersmost recently I have had the honor and joy of playing alongside:

miniJ: Takahiro Morooka & Mike Weiser

moraine: Dennis Rea, Alicia Allen, Ruth Davidson, and Kevin Millard. diverse stunning committed. Lyrically adept; textural and textual gymnasts.

James Whiton & the Downtown Apostles, featuring the oceanic & immense James Whiton, John Fricke (compassionate wide sound w/ blisters!) bill patton (able to evoke great terrors, melancholy, empty spaces... and be funny?!)

Dr Fleek's Army of Experimental Children: JimDeJoie, AliciaAllen, DavePascal - Dark funk impressed with booze and bacon.

Iron Kim Style:Thadeus Brophy (angular as broken glass) Bill Jones (customarily tears great swaths!) Dennis Rea (raconteur; w/ left lyrical leanings) Ryan Berg (DEATHBASS!!!)

mostly in the past:

Deadly Dangerous Dastardly Duo w/ the lovely Nate Distelhorst: a man of unyielding inquisitiveness coupled with, and guided by, an immense heart.

highrize: so many members... whoa...

aXoLotL: filligreed spiderworks - bill horist; luminous lyricism - dennis rea; roundhouse kicks - ryan berg

the brothers of max catharsis: Joe Messer & Ryan Farris - for practicing 3x a week for 9yrs! accomplishment in itself! as true friends, even brothers. disagreeable even! -but I learned when to, and when not to, compromise (or started to...) Most importantly I came to value the conversion of the ugly impulse into the beautiful.

and the root of it all: Los Hermanos De Jazz (sometimes Lagotic Hamacratic Dado Jesuits): the root of the root of it! geoff escandon, brian "nutmeg" redfern, Aaron Shorr, omar Ramirez, drew fogg, and remember Todd Hill and Marco Zirino!

Influences"Total involvement... When you're playing, the music is not just you and the horn - the music is the microphone, the chair, the door opening, the spotlight, something rattling. From soul to universe." - Wayne Shorter, 1968
Sounds Likea 57 chevy barreling around a corner, a hubcap winging off a flat tire; stereo bumpin'; but in the quiet of a snow field. empty and disparate clackerings. windchimes rusted on an 'ol tree by a creaky porchy old house on a beach in waimanalo. in the subway.

   About jay jaskot

once, awashed in sun and salt, on an island, far far from places, but near to the heart, was born a 'lil tangerine of a man. through heat and circumstance; he grew. Lovingly. then came o.c. california. whoops! -but after: the wet drippy greens of moss made seattle. ahh to suck in a lungful of moist air, under an old tree; but on a street, in a city overlooking a deep water dotted with islands dramatic green and bold. With all this quiet he had to move to NYC... birthplace of his ma, once home of his da, life of his sis; and, further, landing place of his predecessors, a few short generations ago. All the while, through the thick and thin of it, he's played drums; as incorporation of the whole in his life: movement makes sound, sound produces emotion, emotion elicits thought, thought generates action; movement. full circle. neat.
