Music that embraces you, lifts you up, and reminds you to dream. JJ Brown's melodies are the foundation of music and lyrics written with heart and soul. It’s the optimism that keeps this musician on track, realizing that his dreams might be right around the next corner. Through his heartfelt words, you will ride on his journey through sadness, loss, discovery, triumph, pure love, new beginnings, and life’s biggest wonders.
Joshua John Brown was born in Columbus, Oh. His first memories of music were with his Father who played the guitar while his mother sang the gospel. When JJ was thirteen he moved to Chattanooga, TN where he picked up the guitar and began teaching himself to play. JJ also learned how to play piano and drums, which helped him become a better songwriter. JJ quickly became part of the local music scene in Chattanooga and began to perform frequently with his band.
At age nineteen, while living in Chattanooga, TN and taking classes at Chattanooga State College, JJ decided to join the United States Navy. While enlisted, JJ served in two wars and traveled to thirteen countries. He quickly gained fans amongst his fellow shipmates by performing nightly in the hangar bay of the USS Nimitz. This was a place for fellow sailors to forget about where they were and focus on their loved ones at home. JJ performed in Singapore and in Greece where his American blue-eyed blues were welcomed.
JJ started writing to find an escape to a place where he was responsible only for the moment he was in. He writes about being in love and other times he writes because he knows that someone is in need of strength. Through the power and magic of his acoustic rock melodies he touches people’s hearts and carries them through their experience, embracing them with his words.
Most recently, JJ was honored with the opportunity to open up for the Kevin Costner and The Modern West, The Doobie Brothers, and Peter Frampton at The Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California. Through the summer months, JJ performed every Friday and Saturday night at the Sunset Lounge located in the Hotel/Casino.
In 2006, JJ co-wrote a song for Christian rock band The Turning for their album called “Learning to Lose”(signed by Rocket Town Records, 2006). The song is called “Through All the Earth” and received great response. JJ also sang background vocals and assisted with engineering the recording of the same album. Recently on Christian Music Review “Through All the Earth” was referred to as “one of the best tracks on this album.” The writer went on to say he “wouldn’t be surprised if this song becomes part of a praise and worship ‘best of’ CD’ someday.”
JJ worked for Sound Kitchen, the largest and most prestigious recording facility in the Southeast owned by Weston Entertainment and John Elefante (singer for Kansas). During his time there, JJ set up sessions for Tim McGraw, Wynona Judd, Sarah Evens, and more. Additionally, he worked side by side with Grammy award winning producer Nathan Dantzler.
JJ resides in a small town in Central California called Kingsburg. He just returned from a long and weary trip to Nashville only to realize that the rockstar lives in you and not the city you live in or the people you know. JJ is a musician with direction, goals and untouchable motivation for musical success.
