1958 in Barcelona, Spanien, geboren, ist José J. Cortijo als Musiker und Dozent seit 1983 in Deutschland tätig. Seine stilistische Offenheit zeigt sich bei zahlreichen Auftritten, u.a. mit Nina Corti, Chris Thompson, Al Jarreau, Thomas Anders, Jon Lord, Uwe Ochsenknecht, The Surpremes, Conexión Latina, NDR-Big-Band, sowie bei TV-, Rundfunk- und Plattenaufnahmen u.a. für BR3, NDR, HR, PRO 7 und seiner Mitwirkung bei verschiedenen Musicals. Als einziger Professor für Latin Percussion in Deutschland, unterrichtet er an der Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim und ist ein gefragter Dozent bei zahlreichen Workshops und Seminaren im In- und Ausland. Weiterhin ist er Autor des Buches Latin-Timbales für Percussionisten und Schlagzeuger (LEU-Verlag 2002) und des Buches Kleinpercussion Spielen (LEU-Verlag 2005). Autor der Video-Musikschule für Congas I (erschienen bei IMP-Warner Bros. 1995) sowie einer Workshopreihe in der Fachzeitschrift „Drums & Percussion“. Ideengeber für das Latin-Percussion PlugIn in das Notationsprogramm Finale und Autor des Add On für Finale „scoreGroove“.

Born 1958 in Barcelona, Spain. At the age of 15 private lessons with the Cuban percussionist Pedrito DÍaz. Performances, studio and TV-recordings with different groups in Spain. Since 1983 working as a musician and music-teacher in Germany. First approved music teacher for afro-cuban percussion in Germany. Since 1994 lecturer for latin-percussion at the University of music and performing arts Mannheim. At the moment the only one Professor for Latin Percussion in Germany. Besides performances with his own percussion-projects José J. Cortijo joined a lot of tours of well known international artists like, Nina Corti, Chris Thompson, Al Jarreau, Thomas Anders, Jon Lord, Uwe Ochsenknecht, The Surpremes, Conexión Latina, NDR-Big-Band. The music of José J. Cortijo was also in a lot of productions for TV and radio. Author of the Add-on for the notation program FINALE "scoreGroove. Since 1995 workshop author on the german magazin "drums & percussion". Author of the "Latin Timbales" and the "Kleinpercussion" book. Finale seminar conductor for drums & percussion.
