Artist Statment: "With a strong respect for the up-tempo British Modern Soul Scene of the late 1970's and the House Music movement of the Paradise Garage, I find myself carrying a historic torch and up-most discipline for playing all things up-tempo, quality, and most of all Soulful." JJ Lopez aka Soul Boy '74. Bio: JJ Lopez aka Soul Boy '74 has been a Disc Jockey since 1995. He has played on the Texas Soul and House Music scene, consistently for the last 12 years. With a strong ever-present knowledge of 70's Soul, Jazz, Disco and Garage, his DJ sets are always an uplifting history lesson. His mastery of replicating traditional DJ techniques of the 1970's allow him and the dancer to fully experience what it was like to dance to a true Soul or Disco DJ of that era. Highlights: He was the founding, Friday night resident Disc Jockey at the now Legendary, Davenport Lounge from opening day 2001 until the clubs closing in 2006. On the air: Now, with over 13 years of Djing and collecting power under his belt, he can be heard every Sat. afternoon, on the air at KRTU 91.7 FM, Jazz for San Antonio. He is the host of the Diggin’ Deep Soul Shake-down show. Each Sat. afternoon, he presents 2 hours of Soul Jazz, Funk, Boogaloo and Soul to the masses. The Diggin’ Deep Soul Shake-down features both new and classic Soul Jazz artists from his personal collection. Tune in at www.KRTU.org.
