Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Rolling Stones, Tom Waits, Ricky Lee Jones, David Byrne, Peter Gabriel, Thom Yorke, some of the musicians I have met while covering New brunswick NJ music scene as well as while performing in the Philly area.
Neye Benziyor?
You decide, cause I have no clue
I've been highly complimented by some who have said my lyric or musical style reminds them of Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Jim Morrison, Talking Heads, Ferlinghetti and Kerouac
I select music I can feel created by talented independent artists and decide what lyric to recite over it to make it fit. I like it best in performance when I do not know what is coming so I listen to the musician and spontaneously select a lyric and vocal arrangement
Jeff Mastroberti was one of the players in the heart of the New Brunswick music scene and frequented all the NJ towns that provided music venues associated with original music. Currently exploring the Philadelphia and Western PA Scene as well as returning to the New Jerseyclubs he is familiar with Jeff has branched out with the publication of his first disc of spoken word, "CAUTION: You Are Entering Jeffland". It is actually beyond spoken word, a new artform Jeff has created which he calls "Melodic Verse".
A little background is necessary for those who are experiencing their first moments in Jeffland...
From March 1997 to October of 1998 Jeff was a music columnist for a magazine called Business & Entertainment Journal (The B&E) covering local independent live music and album reviews
October 1998 he began disc jockeying on WSIA in S.I. N.Y. and stayed there until May of 2002. One of the highlights was when the lead singer of The Toys of "A Lover's Concerto" fame contacted Jeff because she liked his show so much. She sent him a copy of her new music "Barbara Now", and through
Jeff's connections, obtained international reviews as well as a biography and radio play in other states. Jeff went to the IBS radio conference in New York on March 11, 2000 and spoke at their 2001 convention at the New York Penn Hotel.
Along with his excellent restaurant reviews published in regional papers and d.j. work, Jeff did promotion and consulting booking acts like Claudia Acerra into club dates in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania between May of 1998 and April of 1999. He helped distribute her CD "Healing" to record stores, jukeboxes, and business owners as well as getting radio airplay in NY, NJ, and MA. From January to April 2000 he was Soundtrack Engineer for the original independent play entitled "237" written by Inga Meier and directed by Brian Hanscome.
In a Kelly Keegan review in "The Daily Targum" she states that "Hanscome ensured that "237" came as an entire package, wrapped in a soundtrack engineered by Jeff Mastroberti that, like a film, made each moment that much more poignant and lasting. "In June of 2001 he went back to being a disc jockey on WVPH in Piscataway NY co hosting show with Dave Nacin until January of 2002.
In December of 2002 "Caution Youre Entering Jeffland" debuted, a spoken word CD project bringing his stage experience to a tangible fixed format. Pooling his contacts from the various music communities he frequents, Jeff's work multi-tasks, giving exposure to the artists he feels are relevant and important.
Since the emergence of the compact disc Jeff has performed at various venues and radio stations in NJ, PA, and MA. His next compact disc promises to be even more diverse with music from Massachusetts by The Deal and The Count being offered to him, and a promise from Buzzy Linhart on May 27th to The Count that Mr. Linhart will provide a backing track and co-write some melodic verse with Jeff Mastroberti.
Jeff launched his site www.jeffland.cjb.net in 2003 with www.melodicverse.com being created in May of that same year. In 2006 he has launched www.jeffmastroberti.com.
