Music
This is a tuff one! I know I should just put down some bands I like, but that will not work without explaining myself.
I started liking music very young. When Stars Wars came out I was a John Williams fanatic. I just loved classical music and especially the soundtracks to great movies (especially horror and Sci-Fi). At a very young age (like 6-7th grade) I started to like bands like Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, Supertramp, Frank Zappa, Rush, AC/DC, David Bowie, Queen, Blondie, The Who, Gary Numan, Cheap Trick, and many of the rock acts that stations like WLPX, WQFM, and WLUP where playing. I then fell into the world of The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (and most metal for that matter) Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Lepard, Motorhead, UFO, Demon, Angelwitch, plus other European and American acts like The Scorpions, Baron Rojo, Accept, Michael Shenker Band, Uli Jon Roth, Hawkwind. Then around 1982-83 things changed. Metal got serious. I just started digging hard on bands like Metallica, Slayer, Trouble, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Satan, Ostrogoth, and many more. Then in high school I discovered the music that would soon change my life! It had the distortion and meat of metal, yet it was melodic and hook laden. It was PUNK ROCK! When I first heard Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegtables by The Dead Kennedys, and Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols it was all over. I know The Sex Pistols is a little cliche, but at my age it rang true. It then opened my world up to bands like D.I., Black Flag, DOA, Die Kruezen, The Crusties, Charming Deviants, U.S. Distress, Crass, Conflict, Bad Brains, Grey Matter, Minor Threat, Egg Hunt, Scream, PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ON DISCORD RECORDS. The Subhumans, Rythmn Pigs, Big Black, Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers, Flipper, The Instigators, and so much more.
This then led me to the wonderful world of "post Punk" (or as it's called now Indie, Alternative, cutting edge, etc)which would prove to me the most influential of all music for me. This would lead me to what I truely love the most today.....Camper Van Beethoven, The Pixies, The Cure, Killing Joke, PIL, Love And Rockets, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, The Chameleons UK, Faithless, Tom Spacey, Chapterhouse, My Bloody Valentine, Souxie And The Banshees, Jesus And The Mary Chain, The Clash, Legendary Pink Dots, Interpol, Iggy Pop, Joy Division, Cocteau Twins, Roxy Music, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, F/i, The Stooges, Billy Bragg,The Dandy Warhols, The Pogues, Mogwai, Grandaddy, and so, so much more including but not limiting Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Public Enemy, Ice-t, Wilco, Katie Todd Band, The Pulltops, Procel Harem, Dave Brubeck, The Velvet Underground, Smokie Robbins And The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Jurassic 5, Monsoon, April Wine, Ten Years After, Black Sabbath, Can, Dara, Black 47, Orbital, and, and, well I should just stop. The point is, I like ORIGINAL MUSIC! If it's different, unique, fun, and original. I more then likely will like it.
