I have always been that "guy who draws" and it's served me well. I have had the good fortune to accomplish some good things in my small town of Chillicothe, Oh. Haven't heard of it? Seriously!? Aw, com'on Bill Clinton visited here! Still nothing? *sigh*
In high school I got the chance to produce a daily comic strip in the local paper. And it was hated by many, as they thought I replaced the Far Side. I got his spot in the paper when he retired. Thus, JD Comics was born into hatred. But all and all I got a good chance to practice my craft, and for the most part it sucked, what do you want from a high school kid? I was trying to pack too much into a small square. It got crowded and well, I hated it. There were many characters and stories and I think that may have been what lost the readers. I mean one day you’re reading about an adorable fly (The Maybe-not Fly) then the next day you’re reading a story arc of a guy killing a werewolf. Hey it all made sense to me….After 4 glorious years, I had to let it go to, well work. The ten dollars a month doing the comic, wasn’t really providing the lifestyle I was wanting. And when I say lifestyle I’m of course referring to hookers and eight balls.
These days I've been having a blast producing an online strip called JJ Sunshine's based on the many characters and experiences I had managing the local retail store. Trust me, spend some time in a place like that and you'll have a whole new outlook on "Customer Service." That's where I was fortunate enough to meet my good friend for many years now and Co-creator of the strip Joshua Ray. His page is linked in my friends, check him out! And so, platonic “man love” was born and you can check out the fruits of our labor every Mon, Weds, and Fri. And I was referring to the comic for all of those who had their heads in the gutter.
I'm hoping to draw comics full time and that’s where you guys come in! Let us know what you think! And spread the word!
