23-year old J.Kwest has been performing and writing songs for ten years now, and every year has brought more experience and opportunity to add fuel to the PureMusic fire. Thus far, J.Kwest has appearances on THREE nationally released albums, including the acclaimed "Holy Hip Hop Vol. 4: Taking the Gospel to the Streets", which is part of a Grammy-nominated series. He's performed at Megafest and at countless Christian-themed events, but the true testament to the power of J.Kwest's music is his ability to step out of the "gospel box" and ROCK Chicago nightclubs. One look at J.Kwest on stage and you'll be certain: He doesn't want the spotlight, he wants to BE THE LIGHT.
If baseball is known for its "five-tool" players, then J.Kwest is a five-tool package. He graduated from Morehouse College in 2005, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and turned down a scholarship to Harvard to pursue music full-time. He is also a youth activist and substitute teacher, but Julian DeShazier is known most for being J.Kwest. The 2005 release of the EP "20/20: The InVision" continues to create waves in the gospel and secular community, and his 2006 release "Are & Be" is, quite-frankly, groundbreaking. With a degree in one hand and mic in the other, The Phi Beta Kappa Rapper is ready for the world. Currently running with indie-label Double Threat Ent. and gaining new supporters everywhere he goes, one can only wonder if the world is ready for J.KWEST. With this incredible music and virus-like buzz, we'll find out soon enough. My advice? Listen for yourself...
