JLAN grew up in a suburb of Detroit playing and writing Rock/pop.
Moved to the south (Charlotte NC) and was influenced by all the blues and southern rock. All that got mixed together with his rock/pop background. One day in the studio, a friend said "hey that sounds like country", it was a southern rock/pop song.
After having a few songs played on the local music shows in Charlotte, JLAN decided to move to Nashville. Up till this point he had written the entire song and had only briefly done any co-writing.
In Nashville the bar is quite high for lyrics, so he started to co-write in earnest. After a couple of years he got his first Nibble. The song “Gentlemen Start your Engines” was cut by a Nashville Star winner who was under a deal with Universal South.
The song was recorded and she preformed it all over the south. Unfortunately the record company and her had a parting of the ways and the song (slated for her second album) was never released. The version here is the JLAN DEMO...- NOT- HER'version, which was far more country. "that’s how the song bounces in SMASHVILLE" He looks forward to being around so many talented writers and players and working with as many as he can..
“It’s really a wonderful place”.
