1. Tell us about Jmar as an artist and person? Well I feel as a person that im pretty decent and grounded, we werent raised with alot so it doesnt take much to make me happy. I have dreams an aspirations too, my kids are the most important thing to me as well as my family. As an artist I feel like Im growing everyday and feel that there is a need for my music because its real music with real feelings, not some catchy hook and a catchy beat. I will stay back and sign every autograph and I truly appreciate everyone that supports my music and my career. I try to make music you wanna play over and over, my music is about situations and relationships so everyone can relate. I wanna be that artist you thrown in a cd player whether your sad or doing the nasty... 2. What is your next project going to reflect and when is it dropping? Its gonna reflect my growth as an artist but also my struggle as one too, but its gonna be vintage JMar that everyone of my true fans has grown to love. If you talk about love then everyone can relate and feel what you felt at the time. I see my next project dropping summer of 2010. You will see a lil more club tracks from me, but Im not gonna sell out and do what other people are doing by dumming down the music, its still gonna have a message.
3. Any suprises on the new album? Im working on a couple of features for the new album and the surprises will be announced right before the cd drops. I want everybody to to be surprised with my growth.
4. How do you feel about Kanye's outburst again on MTV and calling out Taylor Swift? I felt like he was an asshole, it was embarassing for everyone not just black people, the dude needs to make music and let his music talk for him. The people that buy his music is white mostly, hell they buy everyones music, then he disses nice sweet Taylor Swift, I saw his cds sales decline drastically. The dude is different and good but he destroys everything he builds with his mouth and antics. It pisses me off that a dude like that gets a shot and some dudes like me all over the world that would appreciate the opportunity to be apart of that watch him be an ass.
5. How do you deal with Haters? I dont address them, dont have the time! i know what im doing and worrying about what other people say doesnt feed me nor does it put money in my pocket. Hate is nothing more than jealousy, think about it, you talking about what other people are doing or buying, simply put its jealousy! Most of the time people hate on people that arent really bad people they just didnt take the time to know them or work with them.
6. Does NM radio support their artists, really? Some, I get play in Roswell, Las Cruces, Clovis, and Kiss 97.3, My boy Big Moon throws me on whenever he can, but mosdef Kiss shows me the most love here. Do I feel like there should be more, of course I do! I bust my ass to create a buzz. Everytime I do a kiss it or diss it, or a smoke it or choke it I pass with flying colors and it never gets added to regular rotation, the key word is REGULAR, see they will play it but its very selective. Really there is room for Indy artist on the radio, Just take 5 or 6 of Lil Waynes 40 spins a day, or 3 or 4 of Jeremih 30 spins a day and play a couple of the artist that have they shit together. I will alway have a cool spot for KISS because they got me started. I tested well on both stations and im not in rotation.
7. What has been your biggest obstacle in music? My biggest obstacle has been juggling my personal life and music life, when your with someone and they dont understand the business it can add stress, and another is spending time with my kids. I figure when I get my shot and make that money I will spend more time because then I can afford the bills therefor doing more stuff together. Another is being independent and traveling like real artist that are in the machine. One of my pet peeves is some promoters, they will pay thousands of dollars and bring artist, then ask you to do there show for free. am I tripping or is something wrong with that?
8. We saw you in XXL Magazine, What was that like? It was fun and amazing, Eric Martinez hooked that up as well as the city buses you saw all over Albuquerque, he worked real hard and made that happen, while I was traveling people recognized me because of that exposure it helped me sell cds digitally as well! To see ya face in a magazine of that caliber and for 3 months straight just gave me a taste of what being a nationally prominent artist would feel like and I want more.
9. You have been well traveled, but no one does it alone. Who is your support system? My support is Fern, Shadow, Paul, Amanda, My Whole family! Most of my traveling has been with Paul, Fern, and my boy Shadow, MY true MVP is my sis Unikue no matter what happens she is there running my booth and pushing my music. Arvin also helps quite a bit too. All I think about is my kids and that motivation enough, Ive traveled by myself as well so Im self motivated as well.
10. What shows do you have coming up and how can fans see you? I have one in Espanola, NM on Oct. 16th, 2009, and one in Odessa, TX on Oct. 22, 2009! and more TBA.
11. How do you feel about the economy?....The economy hurts indy artist the worse but i do real estate on the side and try to keep moving, but i feel Obama will change it within the next year so Im optomistic about our countries future, heel it cant get no worse!
12. What is your honest opinon on the NM Music Scene? I get alot of love from NM, but can always use more! I see it like this, if you can buy Usher or Dream you can buy JMar so show support for your local artist!
13. Shout Outs! To Everyone and my Family and Friends! ...... -- JMar
2007 was a year that consisted of life changing events for the national R&B artist JMAR. Many things aided in shaping what was an awesome year for JMAR.
Events such as performing the National Anthem for a second consecutive year at the New Mexico Bowl (Mountain West event), viewed by 32,000 people and
nationally televised.
JMAR has been steadily creating a buzz throughout the nation, MySpace and online in general through his own web site,www.jmaronline.com. His site was designed to inform his fans of
upcoming shows and events. You can also purchase any kind of JMAR merchandise!
JMAR’s first album, titled “Who I Am” was an album of which expressed real life situations, relationships, life, and personal growth. “Who I Am” is an album
that you will listen to and will instantly relate to many songs. This album has gone on to sell out countless times at Hastings, online at CD Baby, and MyNewCD.com. Even more notable is
the large amount of CDs JMAR has sold overseas. JMARs music quickly made a buzz not only in the New Mexico but gained in Arizona, California, Nevada, New
York, California and Texas. His smooth and melodic sound and voice playing on the radio has made the name JMAR unforgettable.
With all the hype in the entertainment industry about JMAR, the Source Latino and Down magazine have taken notice and have asked him to be featured in
upcoming articles to be released in 2008. JMAR has had great success and has performed with many successful artists that are well known in the music industry
such as: Lloyd, Frankie J, Baby Bash, music legend and one of his personal idols Jon B, Silk, Pitbull, Slim Thug, Brown Boy, Lil Rob, Paula DeAnda, Natalie,
Pretty Ricky, New Ridaz, Play n’ Skillz, Ice Cube, Chingy, Chamillionaire, DMX, Fat Joe, SoFam, C Petty, V2, S. Malik Swayne, VVS and Christian artist DT
Vocal. JMARs growing fan base and elite performance resume opened the door for offers for many shows.
Naturally, with all his success, JMAR needed management. Power
Moves Entertainment (PME) was quick to take notice of his success and took the opportunity to acquire JMAR. The PME team of Eric Martinez (CEO), Jon Chavez (VP of Operations), Jeremy Aragon (A&R), and Wesley Espinoza (Director of Promotions), the journey for
the two was official. JMAR is on his way to being an internationally known R&B artist and his fame has only begun to grow.
Currently JMAR is working on his second album, titled Eleven26-07. This sophomore album has so much meaning to JMAR, and the title is a tribute to his
beloved grandmother who raised him and was laid to rest on November 26th, 2007. Without her love and motivation he wouldn’t be the man he is today, thus this
was what inspired him to dedicate his work to her as she did for him as he was growing up. This new album not only has a special title and meaning, but has
raised the bar for JMAR and his music. This album, JMAR has worked with an extensive line of producers from around the country. JMAR has been working in the
well known Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California with the Professionals Music Group (PMG). Six songs were conceived and recorded while he was in Hollywood and have brought a whole new sound to
JMAR fans to enjoy. Working with other great producers has added some flavor for JMAR fans ears. This highly anticipated and inspirational album will be out
soon.
You can also see JMAR as he will be walking the Red Carpet at the Source Latino Launch Party, as a special guest, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also
slotted to perform on the Source Latino Tour to be launched summer of 2008. Though his calendar is filling up quickly, JMAR is making way for other possible
tours. You can also see JMAR this summer as he headlines his Summer Radio High School and College Tour, possibly being sponsored by Monster Energy drinks.
