   About John Michael Soria
Soria’s stage presence is hard to miss. More than six feet tall with flaming red hair and usually dressed in black, the audience immediately knows it’s in the company of a genuine rock musician. Dominating and impinging, Soria is an exciting, home-grown guitarist known from here to West Coast for his innovative and energetic guitar licks. And StoneAge is just the latest project in a long string of creative genius. Soria began his formal musical training on the piano at seven. His training extended to the trumpet and woodwinds. By 15, Soria found true love: the guitar. When Soria was 14 he experienced Jimi Hendrix at the Music Hall in Dallas. After the show he was fortunate enough to get back stage and meet Hendrix and the rest of the band. He got all three autographs. Today the autographs are displayed along with a picture of Hendrix on his wall. Needless to say, even today, Hendrix remains a major influence. Drawing from his previous musical training, Soria taught himself to play then began to compose his own songs. After high school, Soria majored in music at what is now the University of North Texas. There, he learned how to make the audience feel what he hears. His musical creativity is consistent and inspiring. Soria has performed with numerous groups. In Texas, he played with the bands Shotgun and Vizion, which were two of the hottest bands in the area during the late 70s and early 80s. Vizion released an album called Rock For Your Life which received airplay on rock stations in throughout the South and Southwest. The album hit the top ten charts in local markets such as San Antonio while competing with major-label acts. While enjoying the popularity of Shotgun and Vizion, Soria had the opportunity to open for many national acts such as Van Halen, ZZ Top and Van Zandt, among others. This helped Soria polish his craft as a musician and as a dynamic presence on stage. Soria has an enormous amount of studio experience, working in some of the area's most prestigious shops in Dallas including Omega Sound, January Sound, Goodnight Audio, Pantego Sound, Platinum Sound, Autumn Sound and Yorktown Digital with the Grammy- award winning Phil York. In the mid 1980s, Soria moved to California to pursue his musical career where he hooked up with numerous outfits, most notably Euclid Drive. With Euclid Drive he cut two CDs which were well received among the more discriminating rock aficionados. In addition to the two CDs with Euclid Drive, Soria had a song he co-wrote with Freddee T on the soundtrack of the movie Blast, as well as a music video with the L.A.-based group called the HEAT. After his 20 year stint in L.A., Soria has returned to Dallas to share his style and love for rock’ n blues.
