It is hard to summarize all that is Jamila. She is a poet, dancer, singer, song writer, actress, model, business woman, musican, artist and more.
Jamila is a native of Washington DC, and has been trained in the visual and performing arts all her life. She began ballet lessons when she was 2 years old, and started piano lessons at the age of 4. She has over 15 years of classical dance training, and continues to teach & play the piano in her spare time. She attended Suitland High School as a Theatre Arts major in the Visual & Performing Arts program. It was in High School that her gift of writing began to show its power to affect people's lives. What began as poetry has evolved into a musical career that shows no signs of slowing.
Each song is a slice of life that touches the soul of every listener. Her live performance is amplified by her live band, Sound of the City. Together, they consistently bring an energy packed show that is unforgettable.
Since her first EP was released in 2005, she has sold over 5,000 copies of her music independently. Jamila has performed at the Historic Lincoln Theatre (2007), and has opened for Kelis (2006), Rah Diggah (2007), Algebra Blessett (2008) and more.
