Jackie Morris has been priviledged to record her music with many stellar musicians. Her two albums feature multi-instrumentalist David West on lead guitar, mandolin, banjo and bass. Her second album also features Kenny Edwards on lead guitar, mandolin and electric bass; as well as David Piltch on upright bass.

In recent performances, Jackie is accompanied by the angelic voice and rhythms of harmony vocalist Lark Ann Cobb or CinderJean; and the talents of John O'Kennedy on lead guitar, mandolin and dobro.

InfluencesJoan Baez....Leadbelly....Judy Collins....Bob Dylan....Paul Simon....Mary McCaslin....Odetta....Marty Robbins....Ian and Sylvia....John Prine....and all those old country-western songs that my mom would sing to me when I was a little girl...and the ragtime piano my dad would play.

   About Jackie Morris
Among TOP ALBUMS AND TOP ARTISTS OF JULY 2008, Folk Music Radio Airplay Chart

"A BRILLIANT SONGWRITER WITH A GREAT VOICE." --Bill Hahn, WFCU radio host/producer, "Traditions"

With her second album, "Money to Burn," Jackie Morris continues to build upon her reputation for "story songs" that are touching and funny, upbeat and offbeat, sometimes personal, sometimes political, but almost always witty and true-to-life. Like her first album, "Where the Legends Grow Like Weeds," Jackie's new CD is rooted in a folk tradition, and features a variety of styles - from ballads to folk rock, blues to bluegrass, country rock to contemporary acoustic, and an occasional country western, vintage "rocker," or flamenco rhythm in between.

Both albums are enhanced by renowned multi-instrumentalists such as David West and Kenny Edwards, and bassist David Piltch on "Money to Burn." Selections from each CD have been played dozens of times on NPR stations across the country. Her popular "Online Dating" song was selected as "some of our 2007 favorites" by Ron Olesko and Bill Hahn, hosts of WFCU's "Traditions" show. And closer to home, she has been a featured guest on Andy Doerr's "RoadTunes Sessions" on KCSB (Santa Barbara, CA) where her first album was a pledge drive selection.

REVIEWS OF FIRST ALBUM ("Where the Legends Grow Like Weeds"):

"The album …bring(s) back the memory of the high tide mark of the traditional C and W genre, although Morris also includes elements of country as well as bluegrass, folk and blues. In part, thanks to her crystal-clear voice and the accomplished string playing of multi-instrumentalist David West, she is able to distill a unique sound of her own from the blend of all these styles." -- Benny Metten, www.ctrlaltcountry.be, Belgium.

"Her rich lyricism approaches, at moments, Marty Robbins. Like Robbins...Morris compresses existing stories into song format, culling from trut-to-life stories." -- Charles Martin, Indie-Music.com.

"Clever songwriting is tucked inside each song." - J-Sin, Smother Magazine.

“Jackie Morris’ CD really is a gem.” – Andy Doerr, KCSB radio host, Roadtunes Sessions.

REVIEWS OF SECOND ALBUM ("Money to Burn"):

"A joy to listen to...warm and humorous...poignant and thought provoking...lively and losts of fun...This CD sparkles!" -- Lorraine Cumiskey, The Bard Chord.

"(A) variety of stories, tributes and enchanting melodies...that will have a place in the library of folk and singer/songwriter enthusiasts as well as anyone who likes acoustic-style music." -- Carl Gage, Folkworks.org

“JackieMorris is a fabulous songwriter….(She) plays folk music that’s informed by a wealth of different styles, with lyrics that are in turn touching, funny, poignant and authentic…Her voice is exceedingly pleasant…She has a wealth of songwriting talent that can’t stay hidden for long. Money To Burn is exquisite.” -- Wildy Haskell, Wildy's World

A native of New York City, Jackie moved to Los Angeles when she was 27. She has been a professional writer ever since; and a strummer and singer for as long as she can remember. Her albums are available for sale and preview on her website, www.jackiemorris.com and at cdbaby.com.

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.

Thank you so much, Jackie! I'm not normally a Country fan but you bring such a fresh approach to it with such a beautiful voice that I'm just LOVING your music! I would LOVE to see you live, just don't get down to your area much anymore. My Grandparents used to live in Santa Barbara, and in the '60's and '70's my grandfather, a retired actor, was the artistic director of the Fireside Theater repertory group in that area.
Anyway, thanks again, have a great weekend! Cheers, Nusi xo

Hi Jackie,
Peter is away for a few days so I am monitoring his MySpace for him. Thank you for the support of his work. You are just "down the street" so to speak from us there in Carpinteria. My husband and I are planning to come to the Avocado Festval this year, maybe we will see you there! I haven't looked recently to see who the entertainment will be, but your music sounds to me like it would be very compatable with avocados. LOL
Good luck to you in your career.

PROMISE YOURSELF…

*To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

*To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

*To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

*To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

*To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

*To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

*To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

*To wear a cheerful countenance at all timed and give every living creature you meet a smile.

*To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticise others.

*To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear; and too happy to
permit the presence of trouble.

*To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but in
great deeds.

*To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best
that is in you.

(Famous “Optimist Creed” from the book "Your Forces and How to Use Them" by Christian D. Larson)

To your great happiness and success,
Daria
