The goods:
I'm a Bible nerd who loves:
the Simpsons, teaching, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), profanity-free hip hop (there is such a thing!), Painting and Drawing, open-air preaching, Bloom County, theoretical physics
Krispee Kreme,
raw baby spinach,
laughing at episodes of Dr. Katz or Aqua Teen with people who've never seen them,
William Wilberforce,
the way new socks feel,
snowboarding,
walking around uptown Charlotte,
really good books,
dry humor,
watching my Dawgs win football games,
Diana Krall's voice,
beating 13-year-olds at Halo 3,
stuff about Mt. Everest,
teaching my nephew how to do a front kick or pull guard,
showing people really cool things they didn't know were in the Bible,
my Legomobile of a new car,
really incredible paintings,
and other seemingly-incongruent things.
I grew up in the inner-city as one of the only white kids in my Dad's church (he's a Pastor too), but spent many summers with my grandparents and cousins in the south Georgia country. As a result, I am fluent in both Ebonics and Redneck.
I love meeting and talking with people of different Faiths, philosophies, cultures, or worldviews than mine.
I'm pretty picky when it comes to being friends on here with people I don't know ("So many social engagements...so little time...") but if you can tell me the origin of that quote, you'll score a few points in my book.
The early years... James-Michael Smith was born in Savannah GA in the summer of 1978. The son of an inner-city Methodist pastor, he grew up as one of the few white kids in his neighborhood and by age 5 could not only sing all the songs on Thriller by heart but also was quite the breakdancer.
His parents discovered that he had a gift for drawing when he was young. Many hours of his childhood were spent drawing comic book characters in the margins of his notebooks instead of paying attention in class. In the mid-80s, his parents took him to see two movies that would instill a passion in him: The Karate Kid and Big Trouble in Little China. From then on, James-Michael developed a love for another kind of art—martial arts.
Also around this time, James-Michael gave his life to the Lord and began to take his Christian walk seriously. Besides rock-solid Christian parents, he had two youth pastors and a karate instructor who were Christian role-models. These men instilled a desire not just to be a Christian but also to be a Christian who lived life to the fullest and shared the gospel in a winsome way with a lost world.
A Methodist fight fan looks at some parallels... :)

I love discussing God stuff so feel free to message me anytime with any question or comment (I'm a pastor, so I'm pretty shock-proof, and no question is off limits as long as it's sincere!)
