James began studying the piano at age three and violin at the age of eleven.
He received an Honours and Teachers ARCT from the Glenn Gould Professional School of Music in Toronto under the tutelage of Andrew Burashko
During his ten years at the Music and Arts School James has also been the recipient of the Winne Pon and Florence Singer Steinhauer scholarships for piano. He has thrice been awarded the W.G. Hall violin scholarship. James has participated in the Toronto Kiwanis Festival placing first and second in his piano classes. He has played in the Royal Conservatory Senior Orchestra and was a member of Mooredale Senior Orchestra, a prestigious youth orchestra in Toronto.
His piano teachers include Claire and John Pengelly, Martin Humphreys, Mia Bach, and Andrew Burashko. Studying with Jeff Martin and Jeff Worden violin.
As an accompanist, he’s been a staff pianist for the National Ballet School of Canada since 2003 and regular for the National Ballet of Canada. The Toronto Dance Theater Company, Ballet Jorgen Company, and Canadian Children’s Dance Theater. Also playing for the Royal Academy of Dance, the Checcetti Society of Canada, Ryerson University. As well a vocal accompanist for the Royal Conservatory of Music and concert accompanist for the Music and Arts School recitals.
