| General | SURGICAL PROCEDURES
1. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
This is a prime procedure performed in this institute. Beverly Hills Institute for Bariatric Surgery has experience with a large number of these procedures, and we have refined the technique and method to produce the maximum sustained weight loss. Modification of silastic ring placement around the pouch to enhance the efficacy of this procedure is a viable option.
2. Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
This is the second most common procedure performed at the institute. A band is placed around the uppermost part of the stomach, separating the stomach into one small and large portion. In this procedure, the band can be adjusted to increase or decrease restriction, and digestion and absorption are norman. In a U.S. study, the mean weight loss in three years after surgery was 36.2 percent of excess weight.
3. Vertical Ring Gastroplasty
Vertical Ring Gastroplasty, or Stomach Stapling was widely performed in the United States and is currently replaced by Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass. It is a technically simple operation, accomplished by stapling the upper stomach to create a small pouch, about the size of 2 tablespoonsful into which food flows after it is swallowed. The outlet of this pouch is restricted by a silastic ring, which slows its emptying.
4. Biliopancreatic Bypass
This operation involves removal of approximately 2/3 of the stomach, and re-arrangement of the intestinal tract so that the digestive enzymes are diverted away from the foodstream, until very late in its passage through the intestine. It then reconnects the remaining stomach to the very last portion of the intestines, while bypassing most of the absorption power: this procedure naturally has the potential to cause malabsorption. The effect is to selectively reduce absorption of fats and starches, while allowing near-normal absorption of protein, and of sugars. | | Heroes |

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Step By Step
STEP 1:
Our program begins with an initial consultation with the surgeon and nurse coordinator. During this session, you will complete a comprehensive physical and history evaluation, nutritional screening, and discussion regarding the risks and benefits of the surgery. This session will last approximately one hour.
STEP 2:
Following the initial consultation, you will undergo a psychological evaluation. We obtain medical clearance from a cardiologist, and possible a pulmonologist at this time. You will be educated on heart, lung, and other specific risk factors associated with your particular surgical procedure.
STEP 3:
At this point, you will meet with the surgeon and/possibly other consultants one or two more times. Paralleled with this, insurance, financing, and other preparatory work is completed. You will also meet with the nutritionist and physical therapist to develop a customized post-surgical lifestyle program, inclusive of recommended dietary and exercise regimes.
AFTER SURGERY:
Although our psychologist, nutritionist, and physical therapist can continue to provide services after your surgery, we strongly-urge you to attend and will assist you in finding the most suitable support groups.
