BIOGRAPHY..

On October 1, 2007, I started as the Music Teacher for 8th graders at a charter school in Fort Lauderdale. Though the kids are challenging, in 6 weeks, I've moved them from Music Theory to creating Music Videos, which we are all having lots of fun with.

In addition to teaching, I'm writing concert reviews for the Broward Times. Click this photo of me with B.B. King for interviews and reviews I've done, to date.

You'll see my reviews of Patti Labelle, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Natalie Cole, Macy Gray, Mary J Blige, B.B. King and Al Green. Also, see photos of Captain Barrington Irving, the youngest pilot and first African American to fly solo around the world!

NOTE: Kuni Mikami accompanied Diva JC in one of two of her appearances at the BLUE NOTE, in New York City, in 1982.

has dazzled audiences in the world of jazz and blues for 30 years. She is an author, composer and dynamic performer. Presently, she is touring Asia, where she has performed at CJW Clubs in Shanghai and Broadies Tavern in Tianjin, bringing her own style of swingin' blues and jazz. SEE FULL BIO

Her first recorded composition is SWEET RETURN, in 1983, on Atlantic Records, featuring Freddie Hubbard and the Kool Jazz All-Stars. In 1995, she recorded her debut CD, Feelin' Good, in Catania, Sicily, with the Giovanni Mazzarino Quartet. This recording contains four originals, NOBODY'S HUSBAND, NO LOVE, DREAMIN' and LONELIBLUE.

From 2003 to 2006, she performed, in Atlanta, with Caustic Dames and recorded a compilation of Spoken Work, Hip Hop and Jazz, entitled, ATLANTA HAS SPOKEN! including her composition, TALKIN' THAT JAZZ!

Joan toured eight European countries and has performed in Mexico, Brazil, Johannesburg, Ghana and China.

She toured Japan from September 13 - October 12, where she graced stages for one month, after performing in China for four months.

I really have to say that I completely loved your CD! It crosses Racial boundaries, age and its just uplifting! I really enjoyed the mixture of musical genres. The dance tracks and retro mixed in the history of jazz influences. It was brilliant. I know a legend. After listening to your CD and your band I was like I have met a legend!
