"Joan's music exudes a warmth, humility and truth that is rare to find in singer-songwriters these days. It was a real pleasure to be part of an album of such strength. "
Thea Gilmore
Joan used to work as a stage manager/sound technician and it was Juliet Binoche who heard her sing one day during a rehearsal break and insisted that she take her music more seriously. So she did. It's very hard to say no to Juliet, trust me.
When BBC Music Publishing decided to scour the country looking for just one developing artist to sign, Joan Coffey was that artist. She was spotted doing a gig with Anthony Anderson of Death In Vegas, and was signed the following week. During the BBC years, she also toured extensively in Ireland and the US, wrote country songs in Nashville, was the Union Chapel's in-house musician working with recovering addicts and alcoholics, and travelled to Nepal to help found a music charity which builds orphanages. She founded TIPOD Records to support independent singer-songwriters and has just released her album "Struggles & Lulls". She has played with / opened for / been supported by the following artists: KT Tunstall, Polly Paulusma, Guillemots, Nizlopi, Nick Harper, Nick Kelly, Nerina Pallot, Duke Special and many others.
