Angie Aparo, Caedmon's Call, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Better Than Ezra, Sheryl Crow, Derek Webb, Chris Tomlin, Chris Carraba, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Pete Schmidt, Peggy Lee, The Beatles, Tristan Prettyman, Bette Midler, Glen Philips, David Ryan Harris, Tony Lucca, Ernie Halter, Nick Daugherty, Alannah Miles, Johnny Reznik, Jimmy Eat World, Good country artists (as opposed to the horrible ones), Tim & Faith, Dixie Chicks, The Judds, Dolly, Reba, and other weird sounding named women who can be identified by their first name only (um. But not Cher). Chicago and Peter Cetera, Hall (but I don't trust that Oates guy), a lot of others I can't think of right now.
I hail from the south and although I spent the majority of my life in Northern Virginia (below the Mason-Dixon line, but very confused when it comes to Yankee/Southerner preferences - we say y'all but only a chosen few, myself included of course, relish the taste of sweet tea), I would have to say that Athens, GA is my adopted hometown when it comes to music. A lot of my musical influences come from my six years there - Athens is a great place to be if you are into music at all. Back in 2004 I decided to head West and I spent the next 3+ years in Los Angeles and San Diego. I recently decided to move back to Georgia and although people thought I was crazy to leave the left coast, I know this decision is for the best. People are so much more real when it comes to music AWAY from LA. It's refreshing to be back in a place that isn't full of people with agendas. I don't know about you, but I was DONE with agendas after middle school.
I like to bring comedy to my music and have a whole plethora of comedic songs to enlighten people with (I'm sure songs such as "Skanky Girls" and "Walk of Shame" are tres enlightening indeed). I enjoy branching out to the serious side more though. I love to laugh and all - of course. But, life needs a soundtrack and I've very blessed to have been able to write my own.
My basic goal in life? To rule the iPods of 13 year olds everywhere. I should be doin this for street cred, but that ain't how I roll.
