Salve, Salve! João Xavi chega chegando!
Falo aqui sobre um suburbano safo, Made In Baixada Fluminense, que prefere enxergar que o copo tá metade cheio, e não o oposto, transformando a noção de vivência periférica. Ao vivo, a cores e em tempo real. Ao invés de reclamar as mazelas, vividas pela maior parte dos cidadãos do Terceiro Mundo, ele opta sabiamente por enxergar tal experiência como aprendizado único, coisa que só a Escola da Vida te ensina. E que não tem dinheiro que compre, nem tampouco fazer um curso na Suíça. É isso aí.
Mas nem por isso sua lírica, sua concepção e sua música são limitados ou medianos, recalcados ou exclusivistas. Esqueça os clichês e estereótipos. Trata-se de um rapper cheio de referências (cita Sabotage, Sergio Mendes e Nação Zumbi como preferências musicais), jornalista (colabora com os sites Rock Press e Overmundo), fotógrafo, historiador (é autor da tese “Da Tropicália ao Hip-Hop: Contracultura, repressão e alguns diálogos possíveis”, disponível para apreciação no site Bocada Forte, especializado em rap nacional), e vegetariano, que se define como “mais um fruto do fenômeno contemporâneo de contato entre a periferia e os meios de tecnologia”. Articulação pouca é bobagem.
Escorado pelo arsenal sonoro da dupla Raphael Garcez & Pablo Duca, conhecidos como BeatBass High Tech, esse filhote de São João de Meriti lançou “Dias De Luta, Noites De Amor”, seu primeiro trabalho, em 2006. Mas, como todo mundo que respira hip hop, ele também sabe que a evolução tem que ser constante, já iniciou um novo capítulo em sua Lenda Pessoal, como diria Jack Kerouac: as faixas do novo trabalho, intitulado “Alta-Fidelidade”, produzidas já em 2007, estão disponíveis no www.joaoxavi.com - e contando!
Se você se interessa pelo que acontece em termos de vida inteligente na música feita no Brasil, preste atenção em João Xavi, pois ele representa um novo produto das periferias do país: jovem, conectado, e cheio de atitude “faça você mesmo”.

W’sup, w’sup! Make space for João Xavi!
I’m talking about a slick fella, Made in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, who’d rather think the glass is half full, not the other way round, and by doing so transforms the notions of life in the ghetto – in present time and in colors. Instead of complaining about the hazards shared by most of the Third World citizens, he wisely chooses to see such an experience as learning; the kind that only life is able to teach us. The kind they don’t teach in Swiss’ schools. Hell, yeah.
But that doesn’t mean that his lyricism, his ideas and his music are limited, average, repressed or exclusivist. Forget clichés and stereotypes. We’re talking about a rapper surrounded by references (he quotes Sabotage, Sergio Mendes and Nação zumbi as his musical influences), who is also a journalist (he writes for renowned websites Rockpress and Overmundo), a photographer and a recently graduated historiographer, having his dissertation, entitled “Da Tropicália ao Hip-Hop: Contracultura, repressão e alguns diálogos possíveis” (From Tropicalia to Hip-Hop: Counter-culture, repression and some possible dialogues) published by Overmundo itself and by ‘Bocada Forte’, a website specialized in Brazilian rap. João is also a vegetarian, and defines himself as ‘the reflex of the contemporary phenomena that resulted from the contact between the ghettos and technology’. Talk about being articulated…
Accompanied by the potent sounds of producers Raphael Garcez & Pablo Duca, known as the BeatBass High Tech, this child of São João de Meriti has released “Dias de Luta, Noites de Amor” (Days of fighting, Nights of loving), his first EP, in 2006. However, as everyone who breathes Hip Hop, he knows that evolving has to be a constant thing, and has already started a new chapter of his ‘Duluoz Legend’, as Jack Kerouac would say. The tracks for his next EP, entitled “Alta Fidelidade” (High Fidelity), produced in 2007, are already available in his website. And counting down!
If you are interested, in terms of intelligent life, in what happens musically in Brazil, you must pay attention to João Xavi, for he represents a new type of artist, sprung from the suburbs of the country: young, connected to the world and filled with the ‘do it yourself attitude’.
