MUSIC... fuck, big question. okay, the beastie boys are my favorite band. missy elliot is my favorite female rap, but yo-yo was queen of her day, not to mention that the queen (latifah) iz hyped up. marshall mathers is my favorite male rap. i also love NWA, 50 cent, cypress hill, and obie trice. i am so proud of m&m for doing encore... he is the punk rock madonna, modern bob dylan of our time, the best lyric writer, hardest worker, freshest producer, the best actor, best artist... most interesting musician of our time. i just love m so much. my favorite album is "the sporting life" by diamanda galas and john paul jones. i luuvvvv classic rock (zeppelin, black sabbath, hendrix, janis joplin, heart, rush, rolling stones, and david bowie). classic r&b old skool soul also rocks my boat big time. disco. funk. funkadelic, issac hayes, curtis mayfield. i love old vinyl. nostalgia. old elton john. abba. bee gees... take me back, away from here. billie holliday, johnny cash, patsy cline. blondie and the velvet underground are two of the best bands ever. take me back to elvis, you give me fever and suspicious minds, burning love, the ghetto, old shep. shit, elvis was the man. my mom had an elvis scrapbook in high school, she was like his number one fan. take me back to crazy on you, magic man. take me back to back in black. sergio mendes and spanky and our gang. the supremes. brick house iz tight. take me foward to the present and i am rocking out to courtney love's new album, america's sweetheart. janes addiction. all girl punk rock bands. sleater kinney. the pop group, bis, from scotland. skateboard punk rock... descendants and all. GRINDHOUSE IS THE SHIT AND GO SEE "THE DESCENT", other than that my favorite big screen flix are "The Addiction" (Abel Ferrera, Lili Taylor, and Christopher Walken, Vampires, and the moral of the story all rock) and "Jackie Brown" (Q. Tarrantino, S.L. Jackson, De Niro and Pam Grier are all awesome in their performances... oh, and the soundtrack is the best compilation ever). Also Dope are all Hitchcock films, and "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" (made by Todd Haynes and banned by the Carpenter family... you can only get underground copies, which makes it cooler, and of course, you can't lose wit the whole story being acted out by fucked up barbie dolls). Speaking of "Superstar", however uncanny as it may be (since that is my last name), "Superstar", the fick about Warhol (my ultimate hero) iz fresher than fresh. And again, Lili Taylor rocks as Valerie Solanis in the classic, "I shot Andy Warhol". On a final note about films (shit I could go on forever... I haven't even touched on the magic of the Betty Page Bondage short flix), the best movie I've seen recently, that blew me away was "The Passion of Christ"... an unbelievably excellent Art Film by, of all people, Mel Gibson. Need i even add that I am a junkie for all old skool film noir, classic horror, classic sci-fi and vampire flix... my favorite genres. Shit. Oh, and Kill Bill. Nuff Said. | | Television |
okay... short list here: MONTEL, TWENTY-FOUR, all CSI, X-Files, all shows on TV LAND, The Streets of San Francisco, Arrested Development, The Simpsons, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Xena, Stargate, all crazy Sci-Fi shows, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Rhoda, The Nanny, NCIS, House M.D. (the crazy doctor show), The Powerpuff Girls, Wild Wild West (totally insane), HR Puffenstuff, Sigmund The Seamonster (all Sid and Marty Kroft), Land Of The Lost, Classic Old Skool Star Trek, Hawaii Five-O, Saved By The Bell, and The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. despite all the pleasures invovled, however, i must also add that i hate the news, reality shows, the media, commercials i don't wanna see, repetitive propaganda replays of 911, the war, and massive tsunami destruction... these things all drive me fucken nuts... the way tv controls our nation, young children... that's when i just turn the tv off. i went for years not even owning a tv and have never had cabel in my own household. how's that for trix? when i can't watch the tv news cuz there's just too much horrible shit going on, i just read the headlines on the covers of newspapers in newspaper racks. i'm kinda currently fascinated by newspaper covers... a couple weeks ago amidst sf chronicle war propaganda, in a tiny corner at the top of the page, there appeared my friend, artist bryan dawson, painting some art or something. that's the real shit i live for. all five million pages of "atlas shrugged" (ayn rand), all angela carter stories ("the bloody chamber"), and anais nin ("henry and june" & "incest") are my favorite sources of literature. i'm also a junkie for hemmingway's short stories, and often claim that he is my favorite writer. currently i'm reading v.c. andrews CELESTE... over a year later, still reading it. i'm at the end now, and the end is so fucken disturbing, i can't go on. Good ole V.C. Andrews... how horrible and fucked up (yet gripping) can she get? ALSO, i'm now reading Tales of mystery by edgar allen poe and phenomenon by SYLVIA BROWNE. SUPER LOVE SYLVIA.

About me:
Not only am i total feminist and hillary fan, but I am actually shocked that this is happening so soon if my life time... in my year (even though the election isn't until 2008). i was born in year of the boar/pig. You'll hear me say this over and over again. This is my year. i just have to stay focused.
i am a modern day cyndi lauper (the old skool cyndi) with a little courtney love thrown in... and add some eva hesse, scorpio style. And, as the B. Boys would say, "I got a bedazzler, so my outfit's tight".
i am also a bay area artist who goes by the name of jocelyn superstar. i work in all mediums and support and promote modern graffiti and it's decriminalization. i have a master's degree in fine art from the San Francisco Art Institute and a bad ass attitude to match. i have collaborated with artists such as jonathan "TIE" lim r.i.p., isis rodriguez, silver warner, and ian rose. in 2003, i shared and completed an art residency with isis rodriguez at Sanitary Fill/ Norcal Garbage Dump in Brisbane, California. some of the bay area venues where i have exhibited my work include the Oakland Art Gallery, the Sony Metreon, the Mills Building in the financial district of San Francisco, Catharine Clark Gallery, The Lab, Pond, Galleria de la Raza, Encantada Gallery, and the Art Studio at Sanitary Fill/ Norcal Garbage Dump. i have also shown in Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh.
Here is my proposed design for the Lilac Ladies Mural Project. Super Copyrighted by Jocelyn Superstar, 2005... to be completed on a very large wall using Aerosol Paint.
