Sounds Like
"The arc of the moral universe is indeed long but it does bend towards justice. At the root of all of this of course is the trade." - Cormac McCarthy
Jody Jones spent the better part of his formative years in Fort Worth and Waco, Texas; playing football, motorcross racing and singing in the church choir. In lieu of rebelling against anything, he rebelled for a guitar in the name of Merle Haggard, Eazy-E and Lynard Skynard. He picked up his first guitar at and taught himself to play, he could already sing.
During his time at Texas Tech, he was a walk-on Free Safety for the Red Raiders. While nursing a knee injury, happenstance brought Jody the starring role of Alan Strang in the stage production of “Equus” and things were never the same. Following the advice of his professors and mentor, Jody set sail for Southern California, where he could pursue acting and explore his musical aspirations.
The City of Angels was good to him, landing him various roles on network television and in both mainstream and independent film. In retrospect, more important was the opportunity Jody found in L.A. to cut his songwriting teeth in many of the city’s finest clubs including The Mint, Hotel Café, Ivar Theatre, Highland Grounds, The Viper Room, and Room Five.
Eventually, hungry for a fresh artistic scene, Jody set out on the road. He stopped at every honky tonk and southern diner he could find on his way and finally settled in North Carolina for a stint performing in various venues, including the Sky Lounge and The Mad Monk.
Surviving the Los Angeles riots, North Carolina hurricanes and everything in between for over a decade, Jody has found his way back home to Texas. “I was ready to produce my first full length solo album,” he reflects, “…put some things down ‘on paper’ and I couldn’t think of a better place or better people to work with…so I came home.”
Along the way, Jody Jones has crafted his own unique brand of cross-culture country soul music that warms hearts and roots itself in his own real experiences. Tragedies, Broken Hearts and Liars is hard proof of his rising talent as both singer and songwriter. Its intense lyrics, strong rhythms and catchy melodies are undeniable and he’s just getting started.
