Bio
I am a songwriter.I enjoy words.I love rhymes and phrases.Sometimes my sensibilities lean towards the tragic and downtrodden, sometimes from personal experience, some from observation.I have often found myself inspired by what I suppose some would say is depressing, the events that unfold in our lives that we must not speak of.Strangely enough I feel as though this is where truth often waits for me.For sometime I wrote songs about my own personal misfortunes and shortcomings, at times I believe doing so provided me a sanctuary from insanity and depression for which i cannot and will not apologize. Recently I find myself in more of an observer of life sort of role.I am not so much interested in creating a specific type or category of music as I am in creating a story or revealing an impassioned feeling or thought about a subject or emotion. I try to honestly allow whatever happens musically to just happen as the song speaks to me. I had spent much of my life this far in the pursuits of some sort of payoff for what I considered my calling card "if you just did this like this or tried to be more like so and so".This type of thinking robbed me of my own voice or uniqueness as an individual. This realization has brought me to the present material that has begun to inspire me. Apologies, forgiveness, murder, prison, social injustice, crooked politicians, greed and the little brilliant things that people I meet blurt out about life, some consciously aware, others just speaking a thieves mind.If you have a need to label me in any way I would hope that songwriter or storyteller would be sufficient.Musically speaking I have no ambition of playing one particular style over another.I simply play and sing what my hands and voice will translate from my soul. As time and diligence collide I find myself struggling less to allow these feelings or atmospheres to encompass the stories. I like to the think of the music as more of a compliment rather than the force.I play what I am capable of nothing more.My primary instrument is the guitar,I enjoy the piano as well for writing purposes,I have an new interest in the mandolin as well as lap steel.I am currently recording demos of new material that will be released either as a solo performance or they may be passed on to other musicians to further enhance and transcend the emotional core of these songs. As a general rule I try not to tell other musicians that I am collaborating with on production how or what to play,I prefer to hand them a lyric sheet and play them a solid arrangement and encourage and allow them the freedom to play what moves and stirs them.I have lived many different places, met so many interesting people, had all kinds of jobs from washing dishes and muckin' stalls to building amazing structures for the wealthy and the poor. From the time i dropped out of college I have worked successfully in mainstream and independent film as well as television and the theatre an actor.Truth is what I strive for in a song,or any medium I choose to be working in.It is your heart is that I am aiming for... Currently songwriting and live performance is my primary source for survival. -Jody Jones -Press Clipping- The City of Angels was good to Jody Jones, landing him various roles on network television and in both mainstream and independent film. In retrospect, more important was the opportunity Jody found in L.A. to cut his songwriting teeth in many of the city's finest clubs including The Mint, Hotel Café, Ivar Theatre, Highland Grounds, The Viper Room, and Room Five. Eventually, hungry for a fresh artistic scene, Jody set out on the road. He stopped at every honky tonk and southern diner he could find on his way and finally settled in North Carolina for a stint performing in various venues, including the Sky Lounge and The Mad Monk. Surviving the Los Angeles riots, North Carolina hurricanes and everything in between for over a decade, Jody has found his way back home to Texas. "I was ready to produce my first full length solo album," he reflects, "…put some things down 'on paper and tape' and I couldn't think of a better place or better people to work with…so I came home for now." Along the way, Jody Jones has crafted his own unique brand of cross-culture country soul music that warms hearts and roots itself in his own real experiences. Tragedies, Broken Hearts and Liars is hard proof of his rising talent as both singer and songwriter. Its intense lyrics, strong rhythms and catchy melodies are undeniable and he's just getting started. Recent co-bills: ADAM HOOD, GUY FORSYTH, BAND OF HEATHENS, TOMMY ALVERSON, JOEE CORSO, CHRIS PIERCE, AMOS MOSES, BACK PORCH MARY, JOSH WEATHERS BAND, WHISKEY MYERS, MIKE MANCY, WORLD WITHOUT SUNDAYS, 50 CENT HAIRCUT, TWO TONS OF STEEL, BRAD HINES, GUTHRIE KINNARD .. .......... ...... ....................I made my layout with the ..Myspace Background Maker...
