Im more loud than I am quiet, she admits and My songs talk about me being a different person at different times. Im into every type of music. If you look at my CD collection youd laugh. It doesnt make sense. I love Coldplay, Prince, Mos Def, Sugababes (my babes), Mis-Teeq, Al Green, TLC, So Solid! Ive recorded so many track and Im lucky to have learnt that I can sing almost any song! claims the five foot one future of pop. BR>
Jody spent the first 14 years of her life in South Africa soaking up Stevie Wonder and The Commodores. She was born to be a star. My dad said I was dancing before I was walking and singing before I was talking. Jody is glad she grew up in and around Johannesburg. You stay a kid. You dont grow up before your time. When I was little we didnt have to spend money to have fun. She has fond memories of sandy streets, chatting to neighbours over the fence and swimming pools. I remember Mandela being released. People were jumping around in the street and singing. Shes brought this celebration to Belong To The World, a track she made with 80s pop legend Howard Jones. Hes a great person to work with. He found an amazing recording of an African choir, which we sampled and it sounds fantastic. I stood in front of the mike and sang, spontaneously. So spontaneously that the first verse is actually the first ever take!

Jody Lei has a natural gift for writing songs. People seem to feel it, she admits. They can tell when youre writing about something real. At school I wrote about how it is to be a teenager, in the song Ice Cream Man (Undercover) and my songs reflect my experiences. Jody describes her experience at St James High in London like being in a movie. It was during her school years that she performed in a Smash Hits contest, which got her signed. My mum said all these peoples songs are good but none of them can perform. I want you to rock this crowd otherwise youre going to walk home. I went on and I was screaming and trying to hype the crowd up because we were in the middle of nowhere and I didnt want to walk home! Fortunately she won, got a lift and a management and a recording contract followed swiftly. Jody also stared in Grange Hill for a year.
Since then Jodys been busy fulfilling ambitions, one of which was working with Wyclef Jean. Two Steps Closer is classic Fugee style fused with Jodys sassy soul vocals and the cooly seductive Ill Be Me. As a performer, Jody is hugely influenced by Janet and Britney. I adore them. Theyre really good on stage and work hard. I love dancing. When it comes to men, Jody likes a good dancer too. "The worst thing is walking into a club and your boyfriend cant dance!"

Jody Lei is ambitious and determined. After her debut charting at ..34, her success grew and grew and saw her traveling to America to record tracks for the highly anticipated album, Just The Music, released on Independiente in 2004. The tracks Just The Music and Reminisce received radio airplay, getting high in charts and popular in the clubs, however neither got officially released.
Jody has now left Independiente and is signed to Stage Three as part of Supatone, featuring Jamie Williams (aka Jaimeson). Their debut, 'In Too Close' is soon to be played on radio, and will be released end of September, with the album shortly following!
