Emerging DJ star and radio host, McLeod is a triumph of passion-led enthusiasm and an artist who’s making her mark on the local music industry as much with her floor-shaking club sets, as her innate ability to entertain – regardless of the setting.
The signs were there from an early age. McLeod, a second generation DJ following her farther who spun throughout the ‘70s, embraced sonic inspiration from an early age. A natural born performer, by the age of four she was already enacting carefully choreographed musical routines for her neighbours, with keytar and mic in hand. Not long after, her first pocket money was used to invest in the cherished vinyl of Prince and Michael Jackson.
Years later, McLeod would take her appreciation of music to the next level as an 18-year-old. Cutting her clubbing teeth at Revolver, she was captivated by the art of DJ’ing and would regularly shun a night’s action on the dancefloor to spend the entire evening following the moves of the club’s vinyl stroking talent.
While McLeod was spurred on to learn the craft by a couple of turntable-owning mates, it wasn’t until 2004 when she decided to take her love of music to the next level. At the time, she was only spinning socially, but after some in-depth soul-searching, McLeod decided to chase the DJ’ing dream and devote herself entirely to her ever-growing passion for music.
No one could say her decision hasn’t been vindicated, either. Having saved up and bought her own decks soon after, McLeod played her first professional DJ gig at Escobar in 2006, with her hook-driven brand of electro house striking an immediate chord with dancefloors and seeing her land regular spots at Room 680, Veludo, Cushion, Equinox, The Heist, Billboards, Wah Wah, Metro and One Fitzroy.
A woman of many talents, McLeod’s effervescent personality has seen her become a star on Melbourne’s Nova 100 station, hosting the 12-4pm slot on weekdays. Her rising popularity has seen her in high demand, as she regularly MCs music industry events, playing host for functions that have included everything from album launches and instore artist appearances to band competitions and underage dance events.
A versatile DJ who effortlessly glides between dirty underground cuts and commercially-friendly crowd-pleasers, it’s no surprise that McLeod’s skills have made her a wanted woman in a city already blessed with its fair share of A-grade dance music talent. Shortly, she’s due to play the massive Stereosonic festival (a follow-up to last year’s event, where she shared the bill with Booka Shade, Armand Van Helden and more), together with the behemoth Sensation NYE event at Telstra Dome, where she brought in 2009 alongside industry luminaries Erick Morillo, Fedde Le Grand and Marco V.
