Cracking good songs in the style of Brecht, Bowie, Bernelle and Brel, (Irish Times) describes the music of Jody Trehy, a songwriter and performer with a dramatically powerful edge. RTE also reviews his original repertoire as possessing, lyrical songs you would leave the theatre humming, while Irelands foremost music publication, Hot Press, considers that he, writes and performs mature songs, delivers them with conviction and knows how to dress them in tasty arrangements.
Having gigged as a singer-songwriter throughout Ireland & UK, he has also written for the stage. His debut show: How I Failed To Become A Popstar, The Musical, was nominated for Dublin Fringe Theatre Festivals, Sexiest Show, award. 2008 will see the full production of Eejit Of Love, a brand new musical comedy, Pavilion Theatre, Dublin.
In addition, he is a founder member of Irelands first professional musical theatre company, Little Dark Star, whose aim is to create independent and alternative musical theatre. In development is a show based on the life and songs of the legendary Ewan McColl and currently on tour is Kurt Weill Kabaret.
On record he has independently produced two well-received EPs and has also just finished recording a full-length album of new songs entitled, Promise which has just been released.
Awards and bursaries include: Dublin Enterprise Board Development Grant, Arts Council UK and Arts Council Ireland. He was also nominated for The UK Arts Foundations 2004 Fellowship Program under the Composition For Musicals category.
