Interests

  • General

Smoking weed (the stuff that's you pull out of the garden and throw out, because the other stuff is illegal). Seriously though. I enjoy doing research (ZOMG WTF?) and I write. I'm soon-to-be published. In the meantime, I edit other people's stuff for White Eye while my stories get penciled, inked, colored and lettered...
  • Music

Incubus (their earlier work), Nine Inch Nails, Bear McCreay, Gorillaz, John Mellancamp, Pink Floyd, afi, Alanis Morisette, Mozart, Johnny Cash, Hinder, She Wants Revenge, Chopin, Barenaked Ladies, Evanescence, System of a Down, Train, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Rolling Stones, Brian Wilson, Joy Division, Breaking Benjamin, Simon & Garfunkel, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, 10 Years, P.O.D., Flyleaf, Huey Lewis & The News, Coldplay, Matisyahu, David Gilmour, Beck, The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, The Crüxshadows, Christopher Franke.

As you may have noticed, I'm eclectic, although I don't care for most rap or country. Or children's music a la Sesame Street or Sponge Bob Square Pants. Sadly, that should've gone without saying, but in this day an age, anything is possible.

  • Movies

Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clerks., Clerks II, Wedding Crashers, Usual Suspects, Finding Forrester, Boondock Saints, Forbidden Planet, Full Metal Jacket, Office Space, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Apocalypse Now, The Departed, The Day The Earth Stood Still (the old one, the new one blows chunks... Keanu "I know kung-fu" Reeves?), The Matrix (the first movie only, the other two are incredibly pretentious I really can't enjoy them... same with "V for Vendetta"... Dear Alan Moore, ideas are *not* bulletproof, not if your entire race is eradicated, or your centers for information are lost—just look at all the information lost at the Libraries of Alexandria.)
  • Television

The Prisoner, Stargate SG-1, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Eureka, Twilight Zone, Jeremiah, Futurama, The Simpsons, The Shield, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, South Park, X-Files (before it really dragged on, and on, and on), The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Farscape, MacGyver (was and will always be the man now dawg), Blake's 7, and Max Headroom (a show so far ahead of its time, its not really surprising that it was dragged out and shot like a rabid dog).

Current shows I watch are: Real Time with Bill Maher, Californication, American Dad!, and Family Guy.

I also like the old campy stuff, like Lost in Space, Space: 1999, UFO, Time Tunnel, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and Captain Scarlet.

Because of the fact that I work well into the morning (3 to 5 A.M.), I've also discovered Adult Swim, and a love for Robot Chicken in particular...

From time to time, I also watch the History Channel, though in recent years the channel has gone down hill.

    ..

  • Books

Anything written by Harlan Ellison, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein or J.D. Salinger. I tend to read science fiction novels, from Frank Herbert to Peter David. I've also read Ayn Rand, though I can't fully agree with everything she says. I'm such a fucking lamer that I also read biographies. On people. Yeah, I know, what a lamer. ..
  • Heroes

Harlan Ellison, J. Michael Straczynski, Patrick McGoohan, Max Headroom, Trent Reznor (NiN), Kerr Avon (Blake's 7), Randal Graves, Dante Hicks, George Carlin (Rot In Piece, you intelligent fuck), and anyone who has seriously attempted to get their manuscripts published. Further, I have the utmost respect for "line-level" employees (read: proles) and "supervisors" (read: scapegoats) who has survived retail and retained some semblance of sanity.

Blurbs

About me:

Hi, I'm Joe Beaudoin, and I'm a writer of speculative fiction and other assorted subjects too eclectic to write here. I'm presently the Vice President and writer of comic book scripts for White Eye Productions, Inc. and am submitting my short stories out in professional markets. To make ends meet, I also do side jobs—jack of some trades, master of the written word, as it were. I also have a personal website I'm developing, which is here.

Additionally, I wrote articles for Associated Content. The articles I've written thus far can be found here.

Outside of my writing, I also operate the Battlestar Wiki, an encyclopedia and reference to all the Battlestar Galactica series, which is in the top 20,000 sites on the Internet. Ironically, my hobby also includes, well, writing. So I can't escape it. It's just not "creative writing", whatever that truly means.

And my hobby/BSG obsession/geekgasm seems to have culminated into a position as a research assistant for PropWorx's "Battletar Galactica Props & Costumes Auction, officially sponsored by NBC Universal. Geekgasm!

Contact information:
E-mail: joe.beaudoin(AT)gmail(DOT)com
Gtalk: joe.beaudoin
AOL: panda ho joe (It's an inside joke: "Panda Ho Joe" was a gamertag I used during some Halo tournaments... itself a bowdlerization of "pandejo", which is what a Spanish friend called me at my old place of enslavement.)

In the meantime, I'll leave you with this Max Headroom quote. If you get it, you get something from Zik-Zak... or some of Admiral Ackbar's cereal. ("It's a trap!") Or even find out that you're really sad to know what the hell they're talking about.

Blank Reg: "It's a book!"
Paula: "Well, what's that?"
Blank Reg: "It's a non-volatile storage medium. It's very rare. You should have one."

Who I'd like to meet:

J. Michael Straczynski, Harlan Ellison, J. D. Salinger, David Tennant (Doctor Who), Bill Maher, Martin Landau, Richard Dean Anderson, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy.

Further, I like to meet people in general, as everyone has a story, or a dream, or a hope... and I'd like to know them.

Of course, I would also like to meet a woman who isn't into mind games, is level-headed, and likes me for who I am (and not what I have financially), and not for being somehow involved with a stinkin' television show.
